Yesterday morning Hannah Follman with FOX59 News visited Anderson High School to see how things were going in Anderson. She interviewed our Superintendent Dr. Joe Cronk who shared his thoughts related to the flooding and continued support we are providing to our students, teachers, and staff.

The last week has been very difficult. Hundreds of families have had to evacuate their homes while others have experienced water damage. Today we opened our doors again and welcomed students back. The days and weeks to come will be about much more than providing students with a high quality education. It will be about providing stability and continued support any way that we can for our students, staff, and their families. For those that have been impacted by flooding, please contact us or any of our schools and we will do our very best to help address your needs. We are here for you! ❤️💚

We will operate on a Two Hour Delay schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18, 2026. This is due to expected fog in the morning and to allow families more time to get back into the school routine.

Transportation: To help students displaced from their homes, our bus drivers will be on the lookout for any students they see on their route waiting for a bus in the morning. They will ensure students picked up are shuttled to the correct school as needed. For questions about your child's transportation, please contact Kevin Baird at [email protected].

Attendance: If your student is unable to attend tomorrow as a result of the flooding please contact your child's school. Their absence will be excused.

Our thoughts and continued support are with those impacted by the flooding. Please know that we are here for you! ❤️💚

It has been amazing to see our community come together over the past few days to support those impacted by flooding. As it relates to returning to school, we’ve heard a wide range of thoughts and opinions. Some have expressed concerns about returning to school. Others are ready to go back and be with their school families. Like everyone right now we are doing our best to navigate a very challenging situation. There is no perfect answer or solution. With that being said, after careful consideration of all factors, we have decided to close again tomorrow to allow students, staff, and their families more time to address the aftermath of the flooding.

We know that tomorrow and the days ahead will be difficult. Especially for those in our community who have been displaced from their homes or suffered water damage. Please know we are here to help and support any way that we can.

The past week has been challenging for our community. To some in our ACS family, it has been truly devastating. Our Board President Ms. Mandy Webb and Superintendent Dr. Joe Cronk shared a letter with parents and staff today to let them know "We are here for you!"

The letter can also be found on our website: https://www.acsc.net/apps/news/article/2220507.

Help Us Stock the AHS Grab-and-Go Pantry

Our amazing social workers already operate Grab-and-Go Food Pantries to help meet the needs of our students. With the increased need in our community following the recent flooding, we are working to expand our offerings so we can provide additional food, personal care items, cleaning supplies, and household essentials to more students and their families.

AHS and D26 students can access these items during the school day and take home what they need.

Want to help?
Community members may drop off donations at Anderson High School Monday–Friday from 7:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

We also know that many Anderson Community Schools alumni and friends of ACS now live outside of the Anderson area but still want to support our students. Donations can be purchased online and shipped directly to Anderson High School or mailed to the school.

We are especially looking for shelf-stable foods that students will actually eat and can easily prepare or take home, along with personal hygiene products, laundry and cleaning supplies, and new towels, blankets, and pillows.

Whether you live right here in Anderson or you're an ACS alum supporting your hometown schools from miles away, every donation helps us make sure students and families have access to some of the essentials they need.

Please share this post to help us spread the word.
