Quick Reminder: Don't be THAT guy or girl. Be aware and don't fly unless you have specific permissions to do so.

With all the wildfires we have burning in close proximity to roads, (i.e. Swan Lake Fire on the Kenai Peninsula, Shovel Creek Fire near Murphy Dome in Fairbanks, Nugget Creek Fire in Chena River State Recreation Area near Fairbanks) we thought now would be a good time to remind the public that flying drones over wildfires without permission is not only unsafe, but illegal.

Flying drones near wildfires could cause injury or death to firefighters as a result of an aircraft collision. In addition, if an unpermitted drone is spotted over a fire, any aircraft working on the fire must be immediately grounded until the drone has left the area or has been accounted for. This could result in fires growing larger and hampering firefighters' ability to protect lives, property and natural cultural resources.

Please help us keep firefighters safe and DO NOT fly drones near fires.

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Anchorage, Alaska the morning of November 30th causing significant damage to roadways, buildings and utility services. Over the course of three days, we have watched crews assess, demolish and repair a majority of the critical roadways, powergrids and public facilities. We have seen an impressive demonstration by all Alaskans to work together and start the rebuilding process.
