This journey is an ultra-marathon. 🏃🏃‍♀️

Medicine is a great profession, but at the end of the day, you’re the one doing this, so make sure you’re pursuing something you want to do.

If you don’t know or are not ready yet, don’t apply yet. Take the year off, travel, work, take care of yourself. Get more shadowing and clinical experience to determine if this is right for you.

Make sure it’s what you want, and you’re not just doing this due to familial pressure or peer pressure.

Some Advice 👉👉👉 Keep negativity out of your med school personal statement. And this doesn't just apply to nontrads talking about past careers.⁣

In episode 23 of Ask the Dean, Dr. Wright even listed this as one of his top red flags for a personal statement.⁣

If you're writing about how bad doctors motivated you to become a physician and provide better care, for example... you risk coming across as negative, judgmental, and potentially arrogant.⁣

Even if you have every right to be upset with how a doctor treated you or a loved one, don't focus on that in your personal statement.⁣

It can set a first impression that you might be a negative person to be around—that you're going to find flaws with the school or think you're better than others in your class.⁣

Focus on the positive things you want to provide to patients instead. Focus on the positive things you're moving toward.⁣

There is room for you in medicine. ✅ ✅ ✅ If you've followed my content for a while, you know I can't stand all the premed myths out there about grades and MCAT scores. ⁣

• Students are told one C in a prereq means they can never become a doctor.⁣
• Students are told to tailor their school list to the median GPA/MCAT for each school—as if stats are all that matter.⁣
• Students are told their "chances" can be accurately summed up by entering their MCAT and GPA into a formula.⁣

The truth—which I've exposed through hundreds of podcast interviews with adcom members, deans of med schools, successful students, and other experts—is that your stats need to be good enough... But beyond that point, other factors take over.⁣

And one of the most powerful factors is whether you can intrigue medical schools with your story.⁣

I'm doing a really special workshop this Thursday and Friday. I'm going to go into detail about telling your story as premed, why it's so powerful, and how to find YOUR compelling story. ⁣

ALL of you have a compelling story—even if you think you don’t. I'll prove it in the workshop!⁣

There are two time slots, and you can show up to either one:⁣

• Thu Dec 10 at 9 pm ET⁣
• Fri Dec 11 at 12 pm ET⁣

I’ll also be giving away a FREE premed coaching call (45 minutes) to one random attendee!⁣

Don't get this confused! 🤣🤣🤣 Registering = Easy. The MCAT itself = NOT.⁣

Luckily, you can listen to The MCAT Podcast for tips on both!⁣

This week's episode of The MCAT Podcast is "What's the Best Month to Take the MCAT?"⁣

We talk about 2021 MCAT registration and what you need to know!⁣

Listen at MCATpodcast.com, or find The MCAT Podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts!
