We were saddened to learn of the recent passing of Karen Geer, a former staff member in the dental hygiene program. Karen served as the program’s clinical support specialist for nearly 20 years, supporting countless students throughout their educational journeys.
Students remember her with deep affection – one shared, “She was one of my favorite people at UAA,” while another recalled, “She had a beautiful spirit and was a joy to be around.”
A celebration of life for Karen will be held on January 10, 2026, at 1 p.m. at North Anchorage Church of God (1711 Bragaw St., Anchorage, AK 99508). All who knew Karen are welcome to attend.

We're hosting our annual UAA Cares for Kids event on Oct. 18!
We're providing free preventative dental care to youth ages 3-17 during four sessions throughout the day.
Space is limited! Call 907-786-6960 to schedule!
The Dental Assisting Clinic has a few appointments available for fillings. Limited appointments are available on April 3rd, 5th, 10th and 12th. These appointments are for fillings only. The cost is $150 per filling. The Clinic doesn't bill insurance and fees must be collected immediately after treatment. X-rays and a limited exam will be done at no cost, if needed. The fillings are placed by licensed dentists. Please call 786-6960 to schedule an appointment.

During the annual UAA Cares for Kids Day, the UAA dental clinic offered free preventative dental care for young individuals last week.
Miaya Tompkins, a dental hygiene student, highlighted the value of this opportunity by explaining how it can positively influence their dental well-being.
"Just providing that first experience for them is huge. It goes on into their adulthood (...) and sets them up for success," said Tompkins.

September is Dental Infection Control Awareness Month and the dental hygiene (DH) program is taking part to make sure students know the most current infection control techniques.
"Infection control is essential to quality care and patient safety," says DH assistant professor Laura Stoddard. "We follow the national procedures that have been established including wearing protective equipment, sterilizing instruments, and so much more."
