At AJA, we believe that nature is God's best classroom and that learning about agriculture through a hands on approach is an important part of a balanced education.

Last fall we began raising money for a greenhouse for AJA, while we didn't come close to reaching our goal of $8000, we were able to raise enough to construct a small temporary greenhouse which could later be moved to another location or be repurposed as a tool or storage shed.

During the last couple weeks for vocational education, the students have been working on greenhouse construction and planting seedlings. The greenhouse is still a work in progress and the plants are pretty small, but if all goes well, we hope to have a plant sale or two in May in which we will continue to raise money for a permanent structure.

Keep an eye out on Facebook progress updates and plant sale dates! Also if you have pots, flats, hanging baskets, or pony packs that you would like to recycle, please contact Aaron Weber at [email protected] or (907) 320-0240

While standardized testing achievement may not be on the top of the list of reasons that parents choose to send their children to AJA, it is a valuable means of determining how our students are performing academically compared to schools across the nation. Testing takes place three time per year (fall, winter, and spring).

According to our winter testing results, we are happy to report at when compared to the rest of the nation, AJA students outperformed their peers in all subject areas, landing at 68th percentile (Math 67th, Reading 73rd, Language Usage 65th, Science 67th) . This is up 14 points over the previous year and we expect this trend to continue into the spring and the upcoming year!

If you are looking for a safe, academically solid, Christian school with a family atmosphere for your child, I encourage you to contact me at [email protected] and schedule a consultation. Students who are enrolled for the '26-'27 school year before April 1st will receive 50% off their registration fee (a $125-$175 savings). There is no better time than now to plan for your child's future!

For nearly 20 years AJA students have participated in the yearly Alaska Philatelic Exhibition (APEX) that takes place for 3 days during the annual Anchorage Fur Rendezvous. Using philatelic material such as postage stamps or first day covers, each student chooses the topic they are interested in writing about. Their finished projects are framed and displayed under the youth exhibits. https://anchoragephilatelic.org/

During the first and second weeks of February 2026, middle school students at Anchorage Junior
Academy (AJA) in Anchorage, Alaska, participated in a Dave Ramsey Financial Peace Kids class.
Kristine Bunnell, Dave Ramsey Financial Peace Coordinator at Hillside O’Malley’s SDA Church, taught
the 6-lesson class based on a set of six books published by Ramsey Solutions. Ramsey’s Financial
Peace teachings lean heavily on scripture and common-sense decision-making. Students learned Biblical
advice on handling debt, helping others, the lifelong value of planning and budgeting, all focused on
managing our money according to God’s plan. The students were rewarded for their “work” during the
class, including class participation and at-home family engagement. In total, each student received $9.75
to either Save, Spend, or Give as part of the hands-on classroom and home participation. They also had
to independently create a monthly budget, using Ramsey’s Quick Start Budget Sheet, to develop a real-
world skill with their family. Prayers for these students as they learn, grow, and make life-altering
decisions about money, God’s blessings, and His will for their lives. Skills such as budgeting and financial
planning, learned in the classroom, are intended to help students share with their parents the peace that
comes from working with God in financial matters.
Ms. Bunnell teaches the Ramsey Financial Peace University class annually at Hillside O’Malley SDA
Church. This is the second year AJA students have participated in the class.

Vocational education at AJA! Recently the AJA board voted to add a vocational after-school program for the '26/27 school year and this semester we have started the pilot program. Every Monday that school is in session this semester, we are offering vocational training from 3:15-5:15 pm focusing on home economics, agriculture, and community service. Yesterday we had our first session. Chef Ully came and taught a cooking class, the students learned, among other things, about kitchen sanitation, preparing veggies, and assisted in preparing minestrone soup for Tuesday's hot lunch. Keep AJA in your prayers as continue to seek to offer a practical and high quality education for our students and their families!
