Calling Alaska Educators & Parents: Join Our NSF Grant Proposal Team!
ASTE, UAAβs College of Engineering and School of Education are submitting an NSF FINDERS FOUNDRY proposal, and we are looking for Alaska educators, leaders, and parents/guardians to provide input on appropriate ways to increase literacy of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in K-12 schools.
Finders Foundry supports interdisciplinary teams in co-designing practical, technology-based solutions to Kβ12 learning challenges. Our team is interested in exploring the theme of enhancing AI literacy in Alaskaβs K-12 schools. Learners across Alaska are growing up with AI increasingly embedded in many aspects of daily life. This opportunity would help students understand what AI is and how it can help solve problems they're already invested in, such as: energy, weather, healthcare, subsistence, and ecosystems.
NSF requires every team to include a K-12 educator, a technologist, a researcher, and a parent or guardian of a student affected by the challenge. We have technologists and researchers. All weβre missing is you!
Time commitment:
Q&A: Friday, May 8, from 4-5pm
Team confirmed: May 13
Proposal submitted: May 27
If funded: Tentative biweekly meetings and design feedback from July-September

To celebrate , brings you this quote from AASL Past President, Becky Calzada. "School librarians work in a profession in service to others and the impact of a single school librarianβs actions on a broader network can be immeasurable over time. Just as a stone thrown into a pond creates expanding ripples, illustrating how an initial action or change can have a wider impact, school librarians initiate actions everyday that have a ripple effect on student learning, teacher practices, and the overall school culture."
