We’re checking back in with Mrs. Lisa Genco, principal of Loranger Elementary School, for an update on what’s happening around campus and what she is looking forward to for the school year ahead!

Mrs. Genco shares a little about the students, staff, and community that make Loranger Elementary such a special place. We also take a moment to talk about an exciting new chapter for the Genco family, as her husband was recently selected to serve as the next Superintendent of Tangipahoa Parish School System!

There is a lot to celebrate in Loranger, and we loved catching up with Mrs. Genco and hearing what’s ahead for her school.

Looking for a rewarding way to serve our students and community? The Tangipahoa Parish School Board is hosting a 30-hour pre-service training course to become a certified Louisiana School Bus Operator!

Here is everything you need to know to get started:

Dates: September 14–18, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Big news for our youngest readers! TPSS is excited to implement the Once Program across our kindergarten and 1st-grade classrooms this school year!

Once is an innovative early-reading program that delivers daily, 15-minute, one-on-one, in-person tutoring sessions to give our K and 1st-grade students a strong literacy foundation.

With specialized training, coaching, and tools provided by Once, our paraprofessionals deliver highly effective individual instruction— helping students make rapid reading growth in just 15 minutes a day!

We want to say a heartfelt Thank You, Dolly, for the endless love, light, and life you poured into early childhood literacy. Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, many children right here in Tangipahoa Parish have experienced the magic of receiving their very own books, fostering a lifelong love of reading right from home.🫶

Today, 712 Tangipahoa Parish children are receiving books each month, creating opportunities for families to read, learn, and build a love of reading together.

In 2025 alone, 4,222 books were mailed to children across Tangipahoa Parish.

In the last 5 years, 19,524 books were mailed to children across Tangipahoa Parish.

Since 2013, that number has totaled to 38,616 books delivered to local children.

These numbers represent more than books. They represent bedtime stories, new words, new ideas, family moments, and the early building blocks of literacy that can help children get off to a strong start.

Thank you, Dolly Parton, for inspiring our youngest learners, supporting our families, and reminding us all that you can never dream too big or hold too many books. ✨📚
