Semester 2 is the perfect time for a reset — but the goal isn’t to “get everything together.” The goal is to build a simple system that reduces stress and helps your student stay on top of school.

⭐️ Pick ONE executive functioning goal to focus on for 2 weeks:

1) 10-minute backpack reset (Sundays)
A quick cleanout + organization reset each week prevents the “black hole backpack” where papers disappear.

2) Find a homework tracker that actually works
This can be a paper planner, Notes app, or a Google Doc checklist- the best tracker is the one your student will realistically use every day.

3) Check learning platforms daily (right after school)
Google Classroom, Aspen, Canvas, Schoology, etc.
A 2–5 minute daily check helps students catch missing assignments early- before it becomes overwhelming.

✨ Small habits = big results.

Parents, if your child feels overwhelmed right now, you are not alone! December is one of the toughest months of the year for students.

At Bright Stars, we are focusing on:
⭐ Prioritizing before-break deadlines
⭐ Breaking big assignments into doable steps
⭐ Creating realistic mini-deadlines
⭐ Helping students communicate when they feel overwhelmed

Our goal is simple: help students finish what truly matters before break so they can rest and reset. 💛

🌟 Meet Rebekah Waterson 🌟

Rebekah is the founder of Bright Stars Tutoring, a certified teacher, and a certified Executive Function coach with over two decades of experience supporting students. She began her career as a middle school math teacher, working in the classroom for eight years before expanding into private tutoring in 2018.

In 2021, Rebekah opened Bright Stars Tutoring to bring together her passions for math education and executive function coaching. Over her years in education, she noticed a clear pattern: many bright, capable students were struggling not only with content, but also with the executive functioning skills needed to stay organized, manage their time, and feel confident in their learning. That realization shaped the heart of Bright Stars today.

Rebekah now specializes in working with middle and high school students to strengthen executive functioning skills alongside academic support. Her approach is warm, supportive, and deeply individualized — helping students build sustainable habits that allow them to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

She lives in Amesbury with her husband and their two boys, ages 10 and 11.

Big projects don’t have to lead to last-minute stress.

EF coaching helps students take a project that feels huge and turn it into a clear, manageable plan they can follow with confidence.

Students learn to:
⭐ Break big assignments into smaller steps with realistic timelines
⭐ Use planning tools to stay organized and avoid last-minute scrambling
⭐ Pace their work so they’re never overwhelmed the night before it’s due

If your student struggles to start (or finish!) long-term assignments, let’s talk.

Executive function coaching helps students build resilience- not just push through tough moments, but learn from them.

When students understand how to manage stress and break tasks into smaller pieces, those overwhelming moments start to feel more manageable.

Students learn to:
⭐ Recognize when they’re stuck and use strategies to reset
⭐ Break down big tasks to reduce stress and avoid shutdown
⭐ Ask for help early instead of waiting until things feel unmanageable

If your student could use support building these skills, We'd be happy to chat.

Getting started is often the hardest part — especially when a task feels confusing or overwhelming.

In EF coaching, students learn how to take that intimidating first step so tasks feel doable instead of stressful.

Students learn to:
⭐ Identify a clear, manageable first step so the task doesn’t feel impossible
⭐ Break assignments into smaller pieces that feel doable

Organization isn’t just about pretty binders, it’s about clear, repeatable systems students can actually maintain.

In EF coaching, students learn how to set up simple routines that prevent lost papers, missing assignments, and last-minute scrambling. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s consistency.

Students learn to:
⭐ Use systems that make it easy to find what they need, when they need it
⭐ Keep track of assignments and upcoming deadlines without feeling overwhelmed
⭐ Build small daily habits that make staying organized feel natural, not stressful

Executive functioning skills are the foundation for success in school, and honestly, in life. When students learn how to plan, prioritize, stay organized, and manage their time, everything else becomes more manageable.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing a series on how Executive Function Coaching can help students:
✨Manage their time with more confidence
✨Stay organized in a way that actually sticks
✨Start tasks without dread
✨Recover when they feel overwhelmed
✨Plan big projects without panic

If your student could use support in any of these areas, we’d be happy to chat.

✨ The Sacred Study Space ✨

A calm, organized space can make a big difference in how students focus and feel about their work. Here are a few ways to create one:

🌿 Choose a spot that feels calm and distraction-free
🪑 Keep supplies organized and easy to reach
💡 Add a touch of comfort — good lighting, a cozy chair, or a favorite plant
📚 Personalize the space so it feels motivating and inviting

Even small changes can help students feel more focused and ready to learn.

What’s the must-have item in your study space?
