Mary Margaret “Maggie” Mulhall, 78, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away March 4, 2026, at University Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Des Moines.

Mary was born June 16, 1947, in Ames, Iowa, to Robert “Bob” C. Mulhall and Lois Mulhall. The second of eight siblings, she grew up surrounded by a large and loving family and carried that deep connection to family throughout her life. Mary graduated from Ames High School in 1965. She attended Iowa State University before beginning a successful career in advertising during a time when relatively few women were advancing into leadership roles in the industry.

Mary - known to many as Maggie - began her career in Memphis, Tennessee, in the early 1970s and soon accepted a role as a media buyer in Atlanta in 1973. After several years she moved to Des Moines, where her talent and determination helped her rise through the ranks. Known for her intelligence, confidence, and magnetic personality, she became a respected advertising executive and something of a trailblazer for women advancing in the field during that era.

Mary later lived in Seattle, Memphis, and Bellevue, Washington. In 1998 she moved to Las Vegas to help her son Matt launch a mattress business and played an instrumental role in its early success. In 2002 she returned to Iowa, settling in Ankeny where she enjoyed being close to family.

Mary loved staying connected with friends and family, rarely missing a birthday and faithfully sending cards for many years. She enjoyed working in her yard, spending time with her many nieces and nephews, and caring for her beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Andy, Riley, and Buzz.

She is survived by her sons Matt Sheeler of Seattle, Washington, and Craig Bresnahan of Madison, Wisconsin; grandchildren Mason Sheeler, Chloe Sheeler, and Brianna Bresnahan; and siblings Gary Mulhall, Ann Mulhall Rees (Larry), Greg Mulhall, Kay Mulhall, Lori Mulhall Waddill (Kent), and Brian Mulhall (Lisa). She was preceded in death by her sister Maureen Mulhall and her parents.

Her son Matt once wrote that there had never been a single day in his life when he did not feel loved by his mother — a gift he will carry with him always.

A celebration of life will be held in Ankeny later this summer.

An AHS Classmate sadly has left us.

Margaret (Meg) Miller was born on January 1, 1947, in Ames.IA. She was raised and graduated from Ames High School in 1965. She went to be with the Lord on October 16, 2025. She is survived by her brothers Maurice and John, as well as a nephew and two nieces. She began her teaching career in Iowa before moving to Harlingen TX, teaching for 22 years at the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. During this time she met the love of her life, Claude McKinney who preceded her in death in 2019. She had a deep love of family and love of creating miniatures, dolls and crafting. She created imaginative Halloween witch cards and monthly met with the "retired girls" to catch up over good food and conversation.

There was no memorial, but she wishes that all will offer a prayer for her and enjoy a piece of cake or slice of pie in her memory.

Meg's kindness, creativity and joyful spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her
