Have you ever had an idea literally handed to you by the Holy Spirit and felt the overwhelming flow of urgency in addressing a situation? That is the way; Annie’s Lunchbox was handed down. Annie and I were conversing on how awesome it is that Amery has a free and reduced lunch program to feed kids that are in need and how great it is that we in the United States have options like this...then, afte
r this conversation it hit me...How do these kids who benefit from the program during the school year eat during the summer months? Do they go hungry? The logical answer to this is yes, they do. If the depend on free or reduced lunch during the year, they must go hungry at least some of the summer months. At this point, I stopped…pondered, and then thought… someone has to do something! Then, it hit me… That someone is me. God would not have just put this in my head at that moment in time if He didn’t want me to do something. Now, that I knew I had to do something the ideas started flooding my mind and my soul. I knew I had to tell someone quick so I called my most trusted friend and a gal that came into the rush of ideas as well…Annie. (Thus the name Annie’s Lunchbox). I know Annie as a lady with a heart bigger than just about anyone’s when it comes to children. I knew she would at least have good ideas about making the program work and I knew if I said it out loud to her…she would make me tell others and really do it. She would hold me accountable to the Lord. When I called her, and told her of my idea, I couldn’t believe my ears…she said something I didn’t fathom I would hear from her. She said she had just prayed that God would use her in her community to help children. At that moment, I think we both knew that this is what God wants us to do. From that day until now, I have been inundated with information about hungry children in our community. With God’s grace, encouragement and strength this program will benefit the hungry children in our community not only physically but also spiritually. I want to show the world the crazy love Christians have toward God’s children and the passion and desire our local church has to meet the needs of those who have the least. - Angela Moulton
