Beth Carroll and Lisa Simpson enjoyed Georgia State Society NSDAR Fall Forum in Columbus. We visited with old friends, made new ones, and learned about committee work. The Council of Safety basket was very popular!

The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibits federal and state governments from denying the right to vote on the basis of s*x. Passed by Congress on June 4, 1919, and ratified on August 18, 1920, it culminated decades of women's suffrage activism.

What a busy great weekend honoring Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter at Butterfly Daze in Plains, GA. Mrs Carter had a passion for protecting pollinators and planting pollinator gardens.
Council of Safety members were hostesses for a luncheon, an evening reception and also provided a wreath to place at Mrs. Carter's gravesite.
Attendants to the weekend event included descendants for six US Presidents: Carter, Lincoln, Grant, McKinley, Polk and Cleveland.

The Declaration of Independence was first read publicly in Georgia on August 10, 1776 in Savannah. It was read in the square in front of the Assembly House and at the Liberty Pole. The document reached the state five weeks after it was adopted in Philadelphia. Local militia units fired volleys, and residents held a parade and a mock funeral for King George III.
