Kin·dom camp provides an opportunity for LBGTQIA+ youth ages 12-17 to feel safe and free to show up as their authentic selves. In June, PFLAG was thrilled to continue our tradition of hosting a welcome reception for parents as they dropped off their kids at camp. PFLAG also contributed some scholarship funding for campers who needed financial assistance by making a donation to Stronghold.

Since we respect the privacy of campers, we can't show our Facebook friends ALL the fun that participants had at camp, but we gladly share some approved images.

A HUGE shout out of gratitude to Stronghold Camp & Retreat Centerand kin·dom community for providing an LGBTQ+ affirming camp here in northern Illinois!

Campers have the chance to experience all the fun that camp has to offer in a week filled with affirmation, community, and celebration. This camp is affirming – full stop.

Know of a young person who might benefit from this inclusive space? Make sure you share this post with them and get them thinking about attending camp next June!

🤦‍♀️ I wish I had thought to snap a pic of the scene at my house yesterday as PFLAG's 6 devoted board members gathered around my dining room table for 4 hours to participate in long-range planning. We considered the following question, "If we are wildly successful over the next five years, what will be different because PFLAG existed?" Then, we pondered 3 items: community needs, strengths of PFLAG, and the question, "If we eliminated half of our programs, what would we KEEP?" Based on responses to those items, some revisions were made to this year's remaining events and we planned for community engagement in '26 - '27. [More information coming soon.]

My gratitude to Gabi (treasurer), Layla (secretary), Cat, Riley, and Haley for their dedicated service to PFLAG and the "all-in" energy they brought to yesterday's planning event...as they do year-round!

Can't attend local events or want additional support? PFLAG National offers online support options for the following communities:
* AANHPI
* Black/African
* Latina/Latino
* Military
* Gender Spectrum

🌈 Help Shape the Future of Our Local PFLAG Chapter

Our chapter is looking for a few caring, dependable people to join our volunteer Board of Directors. As an all-volunteer organization, everything we do—from planning events to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and their families—is made possible by people who generously give their time and talents.

Throughout the year, our board helps organize and support activities such as:
💜 Read With Love events
🏳️‍🌈 Pride Month celebrations
🎪 Community outreach and tabling events
🧺 Our annual picnic
🍽️ An annual fundraising dinner (benefits Youth Outlook & college scholarships)
🎉 Social gatherings and other opportunities to build community

Who would be a good fit?
✔️ You care deeply about LGBTQ+ people and equality—whether you are LGBTQ+ yourself, a family member, or a committed ally.
✔️ You are compassionate, reliable, and willing to work as part of a team.
✔️ You have dependable transportation so you can attend monthly board meetings and help with events throughout the year.
✔️ You can typically volunteer about 4–6 hours per month, including our monthly board meeting and occasional event planning or participation.

No special experience is required. You don't need to know everything about PFLAG or nonprofit boards—we can teach you that. What matters most is your commitment to our mission, your willingness to collaborate, and your desire to help create a more welcoming community. Through support, education, and advocacy, PFLAG's mission is to create a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.

If you're interested in learning more, please complete the interest form linked below. Filling out the form isn't a commitment—it simply lets one of our current board members reach out to answer your questions and talk with you about whether serving on the board is the right fit.

We hope you'll consider joining us. Together, we can continue creating spaces where everyone feels seen, supported, and valued. ❤️

Before rain set in, Layla and Cat represented PFLAG at the Petunia Fest Family Fun Night. They took particular delight in one young person who came up to the table and then turned around and yelled, "This one's about you!" to his moms. Families are about love and emotional commitment, and PFLAG is here to support, educate, and advocate so that LGBTQ+ people and those who love them can focus on all that is beautiful about being a family.

Everybody's Favorite Mothers is a celebration of unconditional love and unlikely activism that started in the summer of 1972 when one mother marched in a parade with her gay son. She carried a home-made sign boldly declaring her support — and a new kind of movement was born. On that day she was an unknown hero to dozens of shocked g**s and le****ns — but the story didn’t end there. Jeanne Manford and her husband Jules went on to co-found a support group for parents — an organization that would eventually become known around the world as PFLAG.

Let's continue the Pride Month celebration!
