Horses experience fear a bit differently to than we do. Their nervous systems are incredibly sensitive, allowing them to detect potential danger long before we might notice it. But unlike many humans, horses don't build a life around fear. When horses determine the threat has passed, they don’t spend the rest of the day replaying what happened or anticipating the next worst-case scenario. They return to grazing. They reconnect with the herd. They come back to the present moment.

Fear has an important purpose; it alerts us, protects us, and asks us to pay attention. But when fear becomes the driving force in every decision, it can cripple our ability to live healthy, fulfilling lives. Curiosity offers another path. It invites us to pause, observe, gather information, and respond rather than react.

Linda’s brand new workshop, Chasing the Black Horse, went fantastically last month! A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making it such a special experience, especially Julie Bridge and Ellie Insley for being such spectacular hosts.

Our group became captivated, engaged, and excited to join in — sharing our own spontaneous insights, experiences, books, and podcast references. Her reframe of patriarchy encompasses the domestication and control of animals and their reproduction, the systemic devaluation of animals and humans, primal fears generated from this system, the injustices committed against women, and the often-forgotten brutality and horrific injustices committed by men toward other men throughout its 11,000-year history. This framing reinforces how, today, the keys to what horses have toteach us are urgently relevant. After years of studying and teaching this work myself, I left with a renewed sense of determination and a feeling that I'm on my path toward creating a much-needed oasis in the profound heart of America — in my little corner of the heart of Tennessee."
