I am more than excited and proud to formally introduce everyone to my awesome girl, Echo.
Echo, from the moment I met her, just had something about her I couldn’t get out of my head. Maybe it was the story of how her emotions were too big for her body and she had a rather loud “no” response. Over the past few years, her and I have worked on trusting me to listen to those “no”s while guiding her through what it takes to be a successful domesticated horse. There has been few greater honors than earning her trust and gaining the ability to ask things of her. When you get passed around for the majority of your life, it’s hard to trust someone and to believe in your situation. The softness I had to offer her was often met with hostility in the beginning.
It’s been a game of time, patience, more time, and sometimes allowances of naughty behaviors simply because she needed the space to express herself. I think her and I have come to a pretty sweet place. No more rearing and trying to strike me down simply because we are overwhelmed. We have gained a level of partnership that only grows out of love of empathy. I can say full heartedly that she has already done more than I ever thought possible, and I cannot wait to see where the journey takes us. 💙💙💙
