New from BASS this semester!:

Ancient Egypt.

Most people will think of pyramids, mummies, and golden pharaohs. Yet, there is far more to Ancient Egypt than these few items. Centred upon the Nile River, the longest river in the world, Ancient Egypt was home to a civilisation that existed and thrived for over 3,000 years. This Fall semester come explore the world of Ancient Egypt in HIST 4316 - Ancient Egypt R/R. Over the course of the semester we will look at the different kingdoms and pharaohs of Egypt, the politics and warfare, and the broader Egyptian society that would make this state one of the dominant centers of civilization in the Ancient World.

~You may know him from animated Disney movie, The Sword in the Stone, or Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, or maybe the series Camelot. Writings and stories about King Arthur have been found in Celtic, English, French, Italian, Spanish, German languages. However, the movies and books are looking at the stories of the Arthurian Romances, filled with knights, chivalry, and magick. What was the world of King Arthur really like? Did King Arthur actually exist?~

This summer join Prof. Marsh in exploring the world of King Arthur in Post-Roman Britain, some of the contenders for the title, and see how the world of the British Isles changed forever during the 5th and 6th Centuries. Course is 100% online. Available as HIST 4317 (CRN 31416) for Alpine students, and HST 4317 (CRN 31537) for SRSU-International students.

Let's hear it for our Political Science Students!

Dr. Velasco and two political science majors, Raquel Contreras and Gannon Moore, traveled to Richmond, Virginia last week to participate in the National Conference on Undergraduate Research. Raquel did a poster presentation on water policy in our region, and Gannon did a poster presentation about a proposed regulatory framework for NIL. The group also had the opportunity to explore the Virginia State Capitol and other government buildings—and catch a Richmond Kickers game before heading back to Texas.

Big thanks to the McNair Program for helping with travel and game snacks expenses!

Shout out to Dr. Jessica Velasco who just returned from the Great Plains Political Science Association Convention in Kansas City, Missouri!

She presented her research on Central Appraisal Districts, took part in the National Politics Panel, and braved air travel! Howdy, Lobos!

The Archaeology Club is hosting our first meeting this semester to talk about possible events! Any and all students are invited to Ferguson Hall, suite 114 this evening (Feb 3rd, not 2nd) to discuss and offer interesting and fun new activities for the club this semester. Just as a refresher, the Anthropology Club has conducted classes on how to weave baskets from native plant material, general flintknapping and arrowhead making, and thrown atlatls just to name a few!

We'll see you tonight at 5:00! (Please bring a cool rock)
