Shoutout to one of our amazing Detroit teams! GVSU TRIO Upward Bound Detroit was recognized in our Forum for their participation in the First Gen Celebration event titled "Your Vote Matters." The event, held at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, included presentations from state representatives, authors, and other community partners. Participants learned the importance of making their voices heard and voting when they become old enough. Check out their video here:

Our programs spent the entirety of last week celebrating National First-Generation College Day! Our programs wrote letters of encouragement to other first gen students, honored our veterans, hosted a big luncheon with over 80 GVSU first-generation students, staff, and faculty, and ended the week with a Dance Party! Pictures to come soon. What an incredible way to celebrate the strengths of being First-Gen!

We are so proud of our amazing TRIO students! Joy Murerwa recently helped sign the check from Fifth Third Foundation for their commitment to REP4 efforts. Here's what Joy had to say about it:
“As a first generation college student, seeing my university implement REP4 ideas, especially FinLit, means a lot to me. Navigating the world of personal finance can be overwhelming. This prototype represents more than just learning how to budget or manage debt; it is about peer-to-peer empowerment and closing the knowledge gap that many students face.”
