This morning, B Platoon was given the opportunity to conduct a walk through of a Boeing 777. These important walk throughs allow firefighters to learn about passenger cabin layouts, seating configurations, flight deck locations and access, emergency exits, interior stairwells and crew rest quarters, cargo areas, and narrow passageways.

Pre-planning an aircraft allows firefighters to understand how passengers may move during an evacuation, areas of congestion, how the emergency exits operate from the inside, where slides deploy, how to navigate to passengers who may not being able to self evacuate, and to ultimately reduce delays in the event of an emergency.

Today, Local 1038 Suppression Instructors finished up the final 40 hour ARFF course for the year at the Fire Training Facility. Over 20 students from different areas and backgrounds came to Pittsburgh to learn from our instructors with several testing to become Pro-Board certified in Aircraft Rescue Firefighting.

This past week, AGC hit a huge milestone.

For 95 years, Allegheny County Airport has been a part of the history of aviation in Western Pennsylvania.

Opening in 1931, AGC has witnessed nearly a century of change in aviation. From the early days of commercial flight to the modern aircraft and operations of today, the airport has continued to serve our region while preserving an important piece of its aviation heritage.

As members of IAFF Local 1038, we’re proud to be part of that history and to continue the tradition of protecting the people, property, aircraft, and operations of Allegheny County Airport.

Happy 95th Anniversary to Allegheny County Airport!

Happy Labor Day from IAFF Local 1038!

Labor Day is more than the unofficial end of summer. It is a day to recognize the generations of working men and women who organized, stood together, and fought to make the American workplace safer, fairer, and stronger.

The labor movement helped pave the way for many of the protections and benefits workers rely on today — safer working conditions, fair wages, reasonable working hours, overtime protections, retirement benefits, health benefits, and a collective voice in the workplace.

As members of IAFF Local 1038, we are proud to carry on that tradition. The strength of organized labor has always come from workers standing together, looking out for one another, and working to leave the job better for those who come after us.

To those who came before us, those working today, and the next generation of union workers:

Thank you for your hard work, sacrifice, and solidarity.

✊ Strong Workers. Strong Unions. Strong Communities.

Happy Labor Day from the brothers and sisters of IAFF Local 1038.
