Look at all the smiling faces from Campagna Center families and staff as we packed and distributed gifts bags at our Holiday Toy Store! More than 450 Wright to Read and Early Childhood families picked up gift bags full of books, toys and other presents for their kids at no cost to them. Thank you to everyone who donated enough toys to make sure every Campagna child gets to feel some holiday magic this time of year.

Wright to Read’s students became archeologists from the future at our annual Readers Take the Stage this November, unearthing objects like toys and everyday items and explaining their significance to the over 120 attendees at our Museum of Antiquities. In addition to the presentations, students explored literacy-based activities such as writing letters to their future selves for our time capsule and digging for letters to form words for our youngest readers. It was a wonderful turn-out of our families and volunteer tutor-mentors to showcase their learning and hard work over the past couple of months.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this past weekend at the Taste of Scotland and Scottish Christmas Walk Parade! It was wonderful to toast the holiday season together and raise critical funds for the children and families we are honored to serve through Campagna Center's educational programs. Our team uses funds raised from these events to ensure families have the tools they need to thrive-- providing early childhood education options across the city, licensed before- and after-school care, literacy tutoring, college and career readiness, and English-language learning classes. We are grateful for all the volunteers, donors and the entire Campagna community for all that you do to support Campagna Center during the holiday season and all year long.

• Our 16 volunteer language instructors spent 2,536 hours working with New Neighbors students on their English-language learning.
• 76% of New Neighbors students graduated from their language classes and progressed to the next level in their English studies, with 100% of students reporting that the program helped grow their English vocabulary.
• New Neighbors were provided with dual-generation supports, with 9 adult students in the program enrolling their children in other Campagna Center educational programs, including Campagna Kids, Wright to Read, and Early Head Start.

The impact of can be felt across all of Campagna Center's school-aged programs. Kids in Alexandria are reading, learning and preparing for their future academic successes because of Campagna Center programs, and those programs depend on donors like you.

• The number of kindergarten students deemed “high-risk” for not meeting literacy benchmarks in Wright to Read was cut in half from 67% to 33% by the end of the program year, and on average students in the early literacy pilot showed a 52% improvement relative to their grade-level benchmarks.
• 95% of parents with children enrolled in Campagna Kids would recommend the program to other families, and 89% of parents agreed or strongly agreed that their child benefitted from Campagna Kids program activities.
• 456 tutoring sessions were provided to 29 students in the Building Better Futures college and career readiness program, with tutoring sessions being rated an average of 4.2/5 stars by students.

New Neighbors Program Builds Capacity for Digital Instruction

Thank you to The Crimsonbridge Foundation, who continue to support Campana Center programs like New Neighbors. Throughout the pandemic, the dedicated teachers and students at New Neighbors were able to leverage technology tools to continue participation in their transformative English language classes. New Neighbors Program Builds Capacity for Digital Instruction The New Neighbors English Language Learner program at the Campagna Center offers English classes and services to immigrants and refugees from around the world who have settled in Alexandria and the Northern Virginia area. Last Thursday, Campagna sites stayed open late for special, extended programming called Lights on After School. At George Mason Elementary, Virginia Tech provided STEM programs for Campagna Kids and their families. These future Hokies learned about archaeology, chemistry, biology and more alongside educators from VA Tech's new Innovation Campus slated to open in Alexandria in 2024.

Wright to Read’s middle school pilot program got off to an fantastic launch last night as students and mentors worked together to build a “claw machine” to grab prizes from above. We were amazed at the creative contraptions that were built but more so by the students themselves who dived into the project and bonded quickly with their teammates to complete the task.

Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk Parade On Saturday, December 3, 2022, Alexandria celebrates its Scottish heritage with the iconic Scottish Christmas Walk Parade. Dozens of Scottish clans dressed in colorful tartans parade through the streets of Old Town, joined by pipe and drum bands from around the region, as well as terriers and hounds...

This year, The Rotary Club of Alexandria, Virginia awarded $130,000 worth of grants to non-profit organizations doing amazing work in Alexandria. To honor this accomplishment, representatives from all the benefitting charities are invited to the Contributions Day Luncheon. Campagna Center received a grant from the Alexandria Day Nursery fund and our CEO, Dr. Tammy Mann gave remarks from the podium. She shared personal stories of young people in Alexandria who have been given transformative opportunities thanks to non-profits these funds are supporting.

Our beloved building at 418 S Washington St has headquartered Campagna Center for more than three decades, and this week we gave our historic home a proper sendoff celebration just before its renovation begins. As Campagna Center prepares for building renovations at our 418 S. Washington St. location, staff, volunteers, and visitors will utilize a new temporary space located at 1012 Cameron St, Alexandria VA 22314 beginning on August 29th, 2022. Campagna Center will operate out of this location for the duration of the original building’s renovation. Our mailing address will remain 418 S. Washington St. We will notify all partners when we have returned to our S. Washington location in 2023.
