Scoliosis has been depicted in the tombs of ancient Egypt, the paintings of Frida Kahlo, and the studios of photographers from Glasgow to Vancouver. This June, we are celebrating curves around the world. Link in bio to read our Scoliosis Awareness Month feature.

And don’t miss The Happy Orangutan Challenge! Post a story of yourself doing the exercise, tag -pilates, and you could win a full year of Scolio-Pilates On Demand.

The straddle on the Pilates chair isn’t just a setup. It’s the correction. Legs open, glutes firing, pelvic floor lifting, pelvis finding its set. Before a single press happens, the spine is already being reorganized. That’s not a coincidence. That’s the whole point.

This is what scoliosis-specific movement looks like in practice: a familiar exercise, chosen deliberately, because the position itself is corrective.

This clip is from Scolio-Pilates®: Take Action for Scoliosis, an online course created in partnership with Balanced Body® that teaches you why scoliosis responds to focused, intentional movement, and how to apply it.

Getting started with ScolioPilates ®️ 💚🔩

Your first ScolioPilates lesson may look a little different to some videos you see online but you might be surprised by how even the simplest movement can go a long way.

We will use the first lesson to assess your posture, how your stand, maybe how you walk. We’ll look at your x-rays
With the goal of helping you find a more supportive elongated alignment.

We will check your spine for any rotation, lateral shift or sideward bend, and then from all this information we might teach you how to use ScolioWedges to support the convexities.

One of the biggest parts of our job as ScolioPilates practitioners if to help you understand your curve and all it’s unique patterns. Knowledge is empowering and we want to give you the best tools.

If you’ve come in experiencing back pain with your scoliosis we want to help you learn strategies to manage pain.

It’s hard work to master curve specific corrections but the world of exercise really opens up once you feel like you understand your scoliosis a little better.

We’d love to start with you. 💚🔩

Some of the research that motivates us 💚🔩📋

We recently looked at an inspiring research paper that came out of Hong Kong and China a few years ago that studied the effects of Scoliosis Specific Exercise before spinal fusion and the results were amazing.

After just 5-days of SSE the study showed a significant improvement in fulcrum bending flexibility, lung function and ultimately Cobb angle correction postoperatively vs patients whose curves were rigid and did not partake in SSE.

It’s important to say that this study was not conducted on ScolioPilates specifically but it was on the Schroth method of SSE who’s principals of breath work, spinal elongation, expansion of concavities and de rotational work are shared with ScolioPilates.

Of course there are so many factors that will contribute to a persons outcome for spinal fusion surgery but this paper is really cool and keeps the conversation open for the importance of scoliosis specific exercise even for those considering fusion surgery.

Another win for the Scoliosis Exercise community! 💚🔩

Does a bigger curve mean more pain? More limitation? More problems?

Most people assume yes. The answer is more complicated — and honestly, more hopeful — than that.

Our latest newsletter breaks down what your curve size actually tells you, what it doesn’t, and what seems to matter far more in day-to-day life.

You were never meant to sit on the sidelines. 🏊‍♀️🧘‍♀️⛳️

Scoliosis doesn’t mean giving up the sports, the movement, the life you love.

It means learning how to move with intention on your terms.

And that’s exactly what the Take Action course was built for, real tools, for real spines, for real life.
