Most of us have seen the quote by Dr. Suzuki: 'Beautiful tone, beautiful heart.' Did you know there is an entire 1-hour video where he teaches components of a beautiful tone? See it here: https://internationalsuzuki.org/guidance/video-5

We have been enjoying seeing the videos of the 55th Suzuki Method Grand Concert (.teri ) at the brand-new Toyota Arena Tokyo! This year they celebrated the 80th Anniversary of the Talent Education Research Institute (TERI), carrying forward Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s vision that "Every child can be educated".

Some of the highlights were:
- 2,000+ performers on one stage, including students from Japan and overseas.
- A powerful reunion of over 300 Suzuki alumni joining the current students.
- 200 soloists for Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and a massive 400-player orchestra for Mozart’s "Jupiter" Symphony.
- The grand finale: 2,000 musicians playing the "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" Variations

New Publication in the ISA Online Archive:
The Life and Times of Dr. Suzuki, Chapter 2
by Fumiyo Kuramochi
Translated by Fumiyo Kuramochi and Lili Selden
https://internationalsuzuki.org/docs/Dr_Suzuki_Life_and_Times_Excerpt-2.pdf

The ISA is proud to present the second installment from this new biography of Dr. Suzuki by his former student and noted Suzuki pedagogue, Fumiyo Kuramochi. In her capacity as Vice-Chairperson of the Textbook Committee for TERI, she has undertaken this important and daunting task of chronicling not only Dr. Suzuki’s work to establish the Talent Education movement, but also an in-depth look at his family and their roots in Japanese society that fostered Dr. Suzuki’s reflections and motivated his pursuit of this idea that has affected so many lives around the world now for generations, and continues to greatly influence not only instrumental pedagogy, but educational philosophy in general.

The updated posting includes the complete Table of Contents for everyone to see what is coming in this publication. The ISA will continue to post further installments as they become available. We anticipate the next chapter to be online sometime during 2026.

Begin your reading of this in-depth biography with the Preface, to gain a personal insight from this author to her subject. Watch for future installments as they become available. Announcements will be made on the ISA Homepage and pages.

Violin Sonata in A Major, M. 8: IV. Allegretto poco mosso 01/29/2026

ISA continues to mark this memorial week of Dr. Suzuki's passing with another historic recording - this time of the Franck Sonata in A Major from 1938.

The First Sonata Recording Abroad by a Japanese Artist - Shin’ichi Suzuki

In 1928, Shin’ichi became the first Japanese musician to record a performance abroad, under the Polydor label—which, at the time, operated as a British subsidiary of Deutsche Grammophon. The work was the complete Violin Sonata by César Franck (1822–1890), with Manfred Gurlitt (1890–1972) at the piano. The recording was issued as a set of four 78-rpm SP records.
