50 Pilots, 20 gas balloons, a few hot air balloons, a nice competition and a lot of fun! This weekend in Gladbeck! 20th anniversary of the launch field.

A launch site with real strategic relevance.

Gladbeck is one of the few established gas balloon sites worldwide with direct hydrogen infrastructure, making the logistics for an event of this scale significantly easier. This is not just a launch location, but a key part of the international ballooning scene. This coming weekend, the site celebrates its 25 year anniversary and continues a long tradition of hosting major events.

Have you ever experienced ballooning in Gladbeck? 🎈

Distance decides everything. All teams launch from the same field at the same time. ⏱🌎

From that moment on, there is no route and no waypoints. Pilots navigate by selecting different wind layers at different altitudes, where direction and speed can change completely within a few hundred meters.

The challenge is not speed, but choosing the right path over time while managing ballast, gas and endurance. Every decision has long term consequences.

What would be the biggest challenge for you as a pilot? 🧭
