We were honored to welcome Joseph Secody and his son to campus today! Mr. Secody is the current West Coast Hoop Dance Champion and gave up his time to share a piece of his heritage and culture, and connect to our community. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge with us, Mr. Secody!

Look at our first graders go! So proud of these readers and their AMAZING teachers!
Encouraging news for early literacy in APS! 📚✨
Midyear data shows strong gains in reading proficiency among first and second-grade students, especially within historically underserved student groups. Several elementary schools saw increases of more than 20 percentage points since the start of the school year, a testament to the hard work of students, educators and families across our district.
📣 Shoutout to the schools recognized for these impressive gains:
• SY Jackson Elementary
• Barcelona Elementary
• Tres Volcanes Community Collaborative
• Bellehaven Elementary
• Manzano Mesa Elementary
• Double Eagle Elementary
• Hubert H. Humphrey Elementary
• Petroglyph Elementary
• Chaparral Elementary
We’re proud of this progress, and we know there is still more work ahead. APS remains committed to strengthening literacy instruction and ensuring every student develops the foundational reading skills they need to succeed.

Happy National Rubber Ducky Day from the 1,000 ducks hidden around the school! We hope they all found a new home with a MAGMA-ificent student… and next year, we’ll only get squeaker-less ones 🫣

Happy first week back from the best view in ABQ! One of our 8th graders said the field looked “majestic” and we think that fits perfectly. We were so happy to see all our MAGMA-ificent students on campus this week!

STEM challenge in library! Third graders worked in the Specialty Space on a collaborative challenge, building the tallest tree possible with limited materials! They had fun and worked together, creating a sense of accomplishment. See if your family can create a taller tree at home!

To end the week, our 8th grade business tech students presented their final project— a business idea in a “Shark Tank” format. We were so impressed by their poise, creativity, and research; thwy were fantastic! Special thanks to Highland HS DECA students, faculty from UNM’s Anderson School of Business, and NM Highlands. We loved this community collaboration!
