My dear q***r climbing community...
"This post is for climbers & q***r folks following the lawsuit of Patagonia (the company) against (the drag queen & climate activist).
Context on me:
I'm a trans & q***r activist and organizer, a climber of 30 years, and a former drag performer. And yeah, I’m pi**ed about Patagonia’s actions.
I'm seeing people post and comment on the page of the only out trans person on Patagonia's athlete team.
..telling that person to "drop the brand" and asking them what they "are going to do" about it.
The relationship that person has with Patagonia is not just one of a
“brand ambassador."
It’s an employer/employee relationship.
**When has it ever been ok to tell a trans person to just quit their job because their employer did harm?** (except for cops)
Our energy should focus on the company and cis-het people in power, not q***r & trans employees who are caught in the cross-hairs of their employer's choices.
I feel confident that trans climber is doing everything they can.
And I imagine they don’t have the power to do/say much publicly without losing their job.
It makes sense that we reach for people we see publicly or feel closest to, but that doesn't mean they are who we should be directing our demands and anger at.
Redirect it appropriately.

One of our most important roles as LGBTQIA+ educators is to help people of different experiences understand each other. This can be particularly challenging across generations. Let’s talk about what youth, adults, and elders need everyone else to understand in conversations about LGBTQIA+ identity and advocacy -and how we, as facilitators and educators- can help build bridges in empathy and understanding.

Jonathan Meagher-Zayas (he/him) founder of , started freelance work in 2016 and started full-time consulting in 2023. In a short time, he has organized dozens of contracts and navigated issues including payment and timeline matters, intellectual property, contract cancellation, and late fees. Far from an expert, he will share how he improved his confidence with the contract by sharing information on his contract templates, utilizing union and state resources, and advocating for himself during an attorney general issue.
