I was visiting a local business last night when I noticed they had a Zoll AED on the wall. As I always have a tendency of doing I walked over to inspect it. I noticed the glass on the cabinet was missing. However, that wasn’t the big issue. See the ❌ in the little window on the AED? That means the unit is not ready for use. Most of the time that means it needs new batteries. My guess is the pads may also be expired because they tend to need replacing at the same time. If the unit is in working order you will see a ✅ in that little window

I went and spoke to a few of their employees about it and handed them my card to give to their manager so I can help them get it back in service. I asked if anyone was ever trained on the AED and if they knew how to use it. They all answered “No”.

Buying the AED to have to help your employees and guests is awesome, but not having CPR training or knowledge on how the AED works kind of makes it a waste. Unless if you’re lucky enough to have a guest there that has training and knowledge of that AED. It’s also important to inspect your AED at least once a week so in the event that you have to use it, it’s ready.
