Open Streets Akron closes roads to cars, invites Firestone Park, Kenmore, Summit Lake residents to commune Residents of Firestone Park, Kenmore and Summit Lake are invited to attend the city's Open Streets Akron event June 25 from noon to 5 p.m.

The Akron Police Department is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer until May 26, 2017. The written examination is planned for June 23 & 24, 2017. Specific times and location will be announced.

Akron Firefighter's Chili Challenge
Annual event at Lock 3 benefits Akron Children's Burn Unit
The 10th annual Firefighter's Chili Challenge, sponsored by the City of Akron, takes place Friday, Jan. 15 from 11 a.m. until the chili is gone at Lock 3 in Downtown Akron.
Each year, Akron firefighters issue the challenge to see who can create the best chili, which is served to Downtown employees and visitors. Tickets can be purchased for $10 and provides six samples of chili and a beverage. Individual chili samples are available for $1.50. Beverages are also available for $2. All proceeds benefit Akron Children's Hospital Burn Unit.
Akron Police and Fire Departments will compete against Cleveland Clinic/Akron General, ARCADIS, and the Hattie Larlham for the honor of Best Chili.

AKRON, OH (MAY 16, 2015) - LAUNCHING NEW DIMENSIONS OF SERVICE| EXPANDING OUR COMMUNITY PRESENCE Community Impact Days-Service Days opportunities. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Zeta Theta Omega Chapter join together internationally and provide a collective impact. A Ribbon Cutting and Adoption Ceremony kicked off the clean–up activity at the Lawton Street Community Center playground. Sorors and family members spent the afternoon clearing the area, spreading mulch, and making the playground safe and environmentally compliant for children and families. COMMUNITY PARTNER: The city of Akron gave in-kind donations to assist with clean-up efforts.

Cyclists: Have no fear, bike repair stations are near!
Crews this month installed bike repair stations in three Metro Parks locations: The Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail's Memorial Parkway Trailhead; the Wilbeth Road Trailhead and the State Route 303 parking lot of the Metro Parks Bike & Hike Trail. The “Fixit” repair stations feature tools to fix a flat tire, adjust brakes and more.
