Who are you beneath the roles you play?

Some roles are chosen. Others are shaped by family dynamics, expectations, misunderstandings, or the way people have learned to see us.

We may become known as the responsible one, the peacemaker, the strong one, the difficult one, the wild child, the overly sensitive one, or the person who never quite fits.

Over time, those roles can become intertwined with identity. We may begin to see ourselves through the same labels others have repeated, even when they no longer reflect the whole of who we are.

In my newest blog, “Who Are You Beneath the Roles You Play?”, I explore how family roles, labels, and unconscious patterns can shape the way we see ourselves, and how we can begin reconnecting with who we are beyond the roles we’ve carried.

If this resonates, I invite you to read the full blog:

Have you ever looked at your life and realized that you are showing up for everyone and everything, yet somehow feel less connected to yourself?

You may be caring for others, meeting responsibilities, making decisions, and continuing to move forward. At the same time, you may feel uncertain about what you want, what you need, or what feels meaningful to you now.

This kind of disconnection often happens quietly. It can develop through years of adapting, achieving, meeting expectations, and becoming who each season required you to be.

Your deeper self is still present. Your values, needs, and inner wisdom are still available, inviting you to listen more closely.

In my newest blog, “Are You Feeling Disconnected From Yourself?”, I share gentle ways to begin reconnecting with yourself and coming home to what feels true and aligned.

How to Coach Yourself Through Resistance

Have you ever felt clear about something you wanted, only to feel resistance rise the moment it was time to take the next step?

Maybe you started overthinking.
Maybe you suddenly felt tired or uncertain.
Maybe you questioned whether this was really the right time.
Maybe you told yourself you needed more clarity, more confidence, or a better plan.

This is where many people begin to turn against themselves.

They judge the hesitation.
They pressure themselves to push through.
They wonder why they cannot just do the thing they said they wanted to do.

But what if resistance is not asking you to become harder on yourself?

What if resistance is asking you to become more skillful in the way you lead yourself from within?

Sometimes the part of you that is resisting does not need more pressure.

It needs reassurance.
It needs understanding.
It needs leadership.

This week’s blog is about learning how to coach yourself through resistance by pausing, listening, creating emotional safety, and choosing one aligned step.

Have you ever told yourself you are not resisting, you are simply being responsible?

You are planning.

You are researching.

You are waiting for the right time.

You are making sure everything is clear.

You are making sure everyone else is okay.

And yet, the thing you say you want still is not moving forward.

Resistance can be subtle.

It does not always look like stopping. Sometimes it looks like staying busy with everything except the thing that matters most.

In my newest blog post, The Many Faces of Resistance, I explore the different ways resistance can show up and why curiosity is often more useful than force.

Where might resistance be showing up in your life in a form you have not recognized before?

Resistance: Obstacle or Messenger?

Have you ever noticed that sometimes the thing you want most is the very thing you seem to resist?

You want to have the conversation.

You want to make the change.

You want to pursue the opportunity.

Yet something seems to hold you back.

Many people see resistance as a sign that something is wrong. Over the years, I've come to see it differently.

Resistance often reveals competing needs, values, beliefs, or fears operating beneath the surface. What we label as procrastination, self-sabotage, inconsistency, or lack of motivation may actually be important information.

Instead of asking:

"How do I get rid of this resistance?"

We might ask:

"What is this resistance trying to show me?"

"What is it protecting me from?"

"What need is it attempting to meet?"

When we become curious, resistance can become a doorway to greater awareness, healing, and transformation.

This is the first blog post in a new 3-part series exploring resistance and its role in personal transformation.

Have you ever discovered that resistance was pointing you toward something important?

Why do we keep repeating the same patterns?

The same type of relationship.

The same conflict.

The same self-doubt.

The same fear that appears whenever we’re about to take a meaningful step forward.

Many people assume that repeating a pattern means they have failed to learn the lesson.

I don’t see it that way.

What if you let go of the idea that the pattern is showing up because you’ve failed?

What if it’s showing up because something within you is still seeking understanding, healing, or resolution?

Over time, I’ve come to believe that many of the patterns we repeat are attempts to meet legitimate needs such as safety, certainty, belonging, significance, or connection. The challenge is that they often pursue those needs in ways that keep us stuck.

When we become aware of a pattern, we create space between the experience and our response. We become curious. We ask different questions. And that awareness creates the possibility for meaningful change.

Sometimes the pattern itself isn’t the problem.

Sometimes it’s the doorway.

To greater awareness.

To healing.

To understanding the story beneath the story.

I recently shared a new Live by Design Insight exploring why we repeat patterns and how awareness creates the possibility for transformation.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

What pattern keeps showing up in your life, and what might it be inviting you to learn about yourself?

Are you living by design or living by default?

Most people don’t consciously choose a life that feels out of alignment. Instead, they gradually inherit routines, assumptions, beliefs, and patterns that begin shaping their decisions over time.

One of the most important questions we can ask ourselves is:

What is driving my choices?

Is it a vision for the future?

Or is it a pattern from the past?

Living by Design begins with awareness. When we become conscious of the patterns influencing our thoughts, emotions, and behavior, we gain the ability to make more intentional choices about who we are becoming.

I recently shared a Living by Design Insight exploring this idea and the role awareness plays in creating meaningful change.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Have you ever discovered a belief, habit, or pattern that was influencing your life more than you realized?
