🌟 Fantastic 4-H'er Friday: Waylon Wood! 🌟

(We have *quite* the backlog of fantastic 4-H'ers to highlight... I suppose we'll have to add Wonderful 4-H'er Wednesday to our posting schedule!)

Waylon holds not one, not two, but THREE inaugural titles in Edgefield County 4-H — and we are here for it. 🏆

Waylon was one of the very first 4-H'ers to join when I came on as agent, and he's been showing up and being awesome ever since. Earlier this year, he became the first Edgefield County 4-H'er to compete in the Presentations Contest — and just this month, he was part of our first-ever delegation to Junior Weekend! Waylon casually makes history and is always cracking jokes while he does it. 😄

Beyond the firsts, Waylon is genuinely one of a kind. He's passionate about game design, a seriously talented artist, and the person in the room most likely to make everyone burst out laughing at just the right moment. He brings creativity, energy, and his whole personality to every meeting he walks into — and our 4-H program is better for it.

And the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The Wood family shows up faithfully every month, generously giving their time and energy to make sure Waylon can be part of this program. They bring full presence to meetings that would make any agent delighted to be there. That kind of family support means everything, and we don't take it for granted for a single second.

Waylon, you are a trailblazer, an artist, a game designer in the making, and one of our absolute favorites. Thank you for being part of the 4-H family from the very beginning — we can't wait to see what you do next. 💚

🌿 Edgefield County 4-H Summer Camp Donation Request 🍀

We are collecting a few reusable and community-donated materials for our Outdoor Adventure summer camp in June! The items listed below will support our environmental education, outdoor recreation, STEM, and mural programming activities.

While our camp is well supported by South Carolina 4-H and the Edgefield County Recreation Department, we prioritize being good stewards of program resources and seek to find opportunities to reduce unnecessary supply costs whenever possible.

Many of the items we need are things community members may already have at home, be planning to recycle, or no longer use — and they make a huge difference in helping us provide hands-on learning experiences for local youth.

⭐ MOST-NEEDED ITEMS:
• Clean 2-liter bottles (we need approximately 15–20 total!)
• Bubble supplies/glycerin/bubble wands
• Clean plastic water bottles (empty)
• Old towels or rags
• Buckets
• Tarps or rope/paracord
• Frisbees or gently used sports equipment
• Clipboards
• Board games/card games
• Magnifying glasses or binoculars
• Coolers or folding chairs
• Leftover craft supplies
• Outdoor fans
• Old T-shirts/sheets for paint smocks
• Exterior paint supplies/drop cloths/paint brushes

I will be at the Edgefield County Cooperative Extension Office (304 Gray St.) to receive donations on
Friday May 22nd, 1:00pm-4:30pm
or
Friday May 29th, 1:00pm-4:30pm.

If you need to arrange another drop-off time, please contact me directly so we can coordinate ahead of time and avoid overwhelming our office staff. :-)

As someone who is always growing in my connection to my Mexican heritage, exploring the history and culture of both modern Mexico and the Pre-Columbian civilizations it holds is something that gets me so excited!

Our meeting will explore language, culture, food, and history with 4-H'ers as we learn tortilla making, explore traditional Mexican ingredients, and discover the rich story behind the quesadilla. To bring it all together, we'll sit down for una cena deliciosa! 🧀🌿

🐴 Horse Club Update🐴

Unfortunately, ****Horse Club for May (originally scheduled for the 23rd) will need to be cancelled this month.**** We're sorry for any inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience!

Emma, Susan, and their wonderful horses are still fully dedicated to bringing Horse Club to our 4-H'ers this summer. We'll share a confirmed June date once things are finalized — so stay tuned! Sometimes life happens, but the horses aren't going anywhere. 💚
