Edgefield families, it's been a few weeks of!magical meetings and I have to share! 🪄

🔧 STEM Club built actual Rube Goldberg machines! We learrned about chain reactions, simple machines, and a LOT of trial and error. When those runs finally worked, the applause erupted and made all the hard work worth it!

🐝 On my end, I completed the Bee a Friend to Pollinators course and earned a continuing education credit — which means even more support headed your way for garden projects this year! I'm very grateful to the South Carolina 4-H Natural Resources and their partnership with The Bee Cause Project to provide cost friendly education to 4-H agents. This opportunity taught me a lot, and even inspired me to start my own garden at home!

🌲 Forestry Friends Club had an incredible day at Slade Lake with a special guest: a real project forester from The South Carolina Forestry Commission, Jonathan Cantrell! Using our own Edgefield pine trees, kids learned to measure diameter at breast height, estimate tree height, and pull core samples with an increment borer. Hands on learning is our jam, and we're always grateful when experts are willing to share their time and wisdom.

🐴 And Spurs of Valor Horse Club hit a huge milestone this weekend: first rides! These riders showed up meeting after meeting to study horse biology, care, and behavior, and it paid off. They've grown as people but also as future equestrians! Brave smiles all around (dads included 😄). Huge thanks to our lead volunteer Emma-Lou Bessant Huffman whose trick riding skills reminded everyone why she leads this club!

📢 One more thing: our Edgefield County wrap-up party had to be rescheduled. We're back on Monday, August 10th at 5:30 PM for an evening of pasta, plants, and planning for what's ahead! We would love to see our Edgefield families there!

It Takes a Village 🏕️

Our Outdoor Adventure Summer Camp Year 2 wrap-up is in this week's Edgefield Advertiser! Huge thanks to the Edgefield County Department of Recreation, and the ten organizations and volunteer groups who made this summer possible — from DNR Game Wardens to Hitchcock Woods to our amazing camp counselors.

Special shoutout to counselor Rylee Raines, who designed and led our community mural project honoring the history of the Ten Governors Rail Trail. The finished piece, named The Arrival, The Flourishing, The Restoration, now lives permanently near the Edgefield Soccer Fields on Peachtree St. 🎨 Let us know if you go check it out!

71 campers, two weeks, and memories that'll keep us smiling through the whole year. 💚

🧩 STEM Club Next Thursday! 🧩

Join us Thursday, July 16th at 5:30 PM at the Edgefield County Extension Office as we explore physics through Rube Goldberg Machines!

Never heard of a Rube Goldberg machine? Think dominoes, ramps, pulleys, and marbles all working together to complete a simple task in the most complicated way possible. 4-H'ers should bring their creativity and their scientific persistence as we explore cause-and-effect and simple machines!
