📣 Meet the Abington Human Relations Commission – Mondays!

Who are the people serving on the Abington Human Relations Commission? Starting next Monday, we’re excited to introduce you to the dedicated volunteers who work to promote inclusion, equity, respect, and belonging throughout our community.

Over the next seven weeks, we’ll feature one HRC commissioner each Monday, sharing a little about who they are, what inspired them to serve, and why they’re passionate about helping make Abington Township a welcoming place for everyone.

We hope you’ll follow along, get to know the people behind the HRC, and say hello when you see us out in the community!

Together, we’re building a stronger, more connected Abington—one relationship at a time.

Stop by our table to say hello, meet members of the HRC, learn about the work we’re doing to build a more welcoming and inclusive community, and find out how you can get involved.

Library Pop-Ups in the Park begin July 1! 🌳📚

🔹 10-11 AM: Enjoy crafts and activities! Sign up for Summer Reading!

🔹 10:30-11:30 AM: Free grab-n-go snack for Abington Township kids, ages 0-18.

The Greater Glenside Patriotic Association is in a challenging position.

We love our community and realize we must continue the 123-consecutive-year tradition of celebrating America's Independence with a parade.

However, we also understand we need to consider the weather forcasted, and minimize the risks to our Glenside family.

With a focus on celebrating our amazing tradition, and considering safety while doing so, we have decided to provide an alternate parade celebration.

At 6:00 PM:
Starting at The North Penn VFW on Jenkintown Road, fire departments from Abington and Cheltenham will parade to Abington High School.

The route will head down Jenkintown Road, turning left on Abington Avenue, to Abington High School.

Additionally, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM:
Stationed throughout the Abington Middle and Senior High School campuses, as well as Copper Beech campus, the World Championship International and out-of-state bands who have traveled thousands of miles to celebrate with us by marching in our parade will still be a part of our celebration, performing in several locations throughout the campus.

At 9:00: Fireworks as planned!

Unfortunately, we need to officially cancel the Children's Program at Renninger Park for this year.

We want to thank the Abington and Cheltenham Township's Police and Fire Departments, as well as their Emergency Management Divisions for their incredible help and support during this process! They truly are amazing partners in this celebration!

We look forward to continuing the unforgettable tradition of celebrating the 4th of July with you all in Glenside.

*Edit: Our original post stated that the PA Army National Guard’s 28th ID Band would no longer be performing. We are thrilled to say that they will, in fact, be performing for a very appreciative community. The Band will be performing along with other parade bands from 7-9 PM across the Abington school campus (Copper Beech, Middle School, and Senior High).

The Abington Township Human Relations Commission thanks the organizers of our Greater Glenside 4th of July Parade, who are offering an option so that people with hearing aids, PTSD, Autism, sensory issues and sleeping babies can enjoy the parade! There will be a Quiet Zone on Easton Road where the fire trucks will not blare their sirens or honk their horns, and where bands and other music will be played at half volume. The Royal at 1 S. Easton Road invites people with auditory sensitivity to come inside to watch the parade.

The parade will go full blast after it passes the Quiet Zone. What a great way to kick off Disabilities Pride Month in July!

We are grateful that people in our community are inclusive and thoughtful of ways to allow everyone to enjoy the holiday. Happy 4th of July to all!

This weekend, the Abington Human Relations Commission was honored to join our community in celebrating Juneteenth—a powerful reminder of freedom, resilience, and the importance of coming together. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, shared conversations, and celebrated with us. As we honor fathers today, we also celebrate the values of unity, heritage, and community that make Abington stronger together.

We’re excited to join the Abington Township Public Library for their annual PRIDE Fest.

Stop by on Tuesday, June 9 from 5:30–8:00 PM in the library’s parking lot for an evening of music, food trucks, local vendors, and community connection. The Human Relations Commission will be there — come say hello, learn more about what we do, and celebrate PRIDE with us!

Events like this are a powerful reminder that inclusion, visibility, and belonging are built together — and we’re proud to stand with the LGBTQIA+ community here in Abington.
