At KCIS, chess is enjoyed both within lessons and through our Chess Club, giving students regular opportunities to develop strategic thinking, concentration and problem-solving skills.

Our Year 6 students have been designing and creating their own cushions in Design Technology using recycled materials.

From planning their designs to learning sewing techniques and constructing their final products, students developed creativity, resilience and practical life skills throughout the project. As part of our broad academic curriculum, we believe it is important to make space for hands-on learning and valuable life skills alongside traditional subjects.

Our Year 1 students have been taking their first steps into coding and programming using Mouse Bots.

Through practical challenges, students learn to think logically, solve problems, debug mistakes and adapt their instructions to improve outcomes — building the foundations of computational thinking from an early age. Skills like these grow year by year, helping students develop the confidence to create increasingly advanced digital projects as they move through the school.

From Year 1 to Year 6, our runners showed determination, resilience and incredible team spirit throughout the day. We are so proud of every student who took part.

Our Year 3 students have been developing their understanding of chronology by planning historical events on timelines.

Through activities like these, students learn that history is more than remembering dates - it is about understanding connections between events, recognising cause and consequence, and seeing how societies change over time.

Our Year 3 students have been exploring magnets through hands-on scientific investigations, testing how magnets behave in different environments including water and sand.

Throughout the experiments, students made predictions, formed hypotheses, observed carefully and recorded their results - developing the higher-level thinking skills that sit at the heart of great science learning. Rather than simply being told the answers, students are encouraged to question, test, explore and discover for themselves.

Hands-on opportunities like these help children build confidence, responsibility and a deeper understanding of the world around them - all while making learning meaningful, memorable and fun.
