WHEN YOU STEP INTO A NEW YEAR, NOT EVERYTHING MUST BE CARRIED OVER.
By Ssalongo Mukasa Joseph
Whenever you move from an old room to a new one, or from an old house to a new house, you don’t carry everything with you. Some things must be left behind, discarded, or even burnt. In the same way, when you step into a new year, not everything should be carried over.
Some things have already served their purpose in your life. Others are simply waste or harmful, and they have no place in your new season, even though they once had space in the old one. As you begin the new year, you must be ready to make changes, whether personal or in your relationships.
Any lifestyle that is not adding value to your life must be left behind. Any habit that has hindered your progress in life or relationships should not follow you into the new year. If a habit is causing harm, whether emotional, physical, financial, or spiritual, seek help to end it.
If you are not married, but your current relationship has no clear direction, no vision of where it is heading, then it should not be carried into the new year. If the relationship is only bringing stress, frustration, and pain, and nothing seems to change, do not take it with you into the new year.
If you are married and keep facing conflict over the same issue, topic, or person, do not carry that unresolved matter into the new year. Seek counselling and work towards peace. Just as new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins, begin the new year on a fresh and positive note.
For some people, as the year ends, their partner may call for a break-up. Do not be surprised. It may simply mean that the relationship no longer serves a purpose in their life. You may no longer have space in their journey for the new year.
In conclusion, "let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." - Hebrews 12:1 (NIV).
