Uganda Christian University (UCU) is a private, not-for-profit University that is chartered (accredited) by the Government of Uganda. In 2004, the Government of Uganda granted a charter to Uganda Christian University – the highest level of national accreditation. UCU was the first private University to receive such a charter from the Government. UCU’s main campus is in Mukono, 25 kilometres (15 miles) from the capital city of Kampala, Uganda. A constituent college, Bishop Barham University College, is located in Kabale (south western Uganda) and regional campuses are located in Mbale (East) and Arua (Northwest). UCU was founded and is owned by the Church of Uganda (Anglican). During 2010/11, over 7,500 students will study at the main campus and 3,000 more will study at campuses around Uganda. Over 40 undergraduate and post-graduate programmes are offered through Uganda Christian University.

UCU at the 5th Annual CUUL Research Dissemination Conference

The 5th Annual CUUL Research Dissemination Conference brought together university librarians, academic researchers, and information professionals across Uganda to explore how to modernize academic library networks.

UCU was represented by Kenneth Erickson Kirya, Scholarly Communications Librarian (Far left), who moderated a panel discussion on "Scholarly Communication and Open Science", earlier today.

Organised by the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL), the conference provides a platform for sharing knowledge, best practices, and innovative ideas to foster collaboration, networking, and capacity building among librarians.

UCU at the 2026 East Africa Hub Convening in Nairobi, Kenya

This year's conference has brought together 10 countries, 30+ Higher Education Institutions, 40+ multidisciplinary speakers and over 150 multidisciplinary participants.

The UCU team led by our Vice Chancellor Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi includes Mr. David Mugawe, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance & Administration; Prof. David Andrew Omona, Director, Africa Policy Centre; Rebecca Kangabe, Director Uinversity ICT Services; Mrs. Enid Ashaba Mugarura, Ag. Director of Student Affairs; Sandra Namisango, Students’ Accountant; Mark Kugonza, Software Developer and Harriet Adong Atuyambe, Director of Communication & Public Relations.

Host: The Education Collaborative in partnership with United States International University - Africa

Prof. Ntarangwi Mwenda, Vice Chancellor United States International University - Africa while opening the convening noted that “A university that puts students first will use technology to:

Visitors from Buganda Kingdom 🤝

Earlier today, UCU was delighted to host a courtesy visit by a Buganda Kingdom delegation from Kyaggwe County (Ssaza), led by Eng. Newton Musoke (Mutuba IV Kawuga), Gombolola Mutuba IV.

Representing the Vice Chancellor, DVC-Academic Affairs Rev. Assoc. Prof. John M. Kitayimbwa welcomed the guests.

They toured the main campus, including Hamu Mukasa Library, sites around Bishop Tucker Building, and the University archive, where Buganda artefacts; especially the first handwritten letters and photos of Kabaka Mutesa I, drew particular interest.

Discussions explored ways to strengthen partnership with UCU to further drive community transformation through quality, values-based education we offer.

WE ARE THE REGIONAL MOOT CHAMPIONS! 🏆🥇

Team UCU has won the regional rounds of the Unwanted Privacy Witness Moot Competiton after defeating University of Dar es Salaam.

Our student contestants also clinched the award of "Best Memorial" ( the most comprehensive written legal document prepared by law students that presents the facts, issues, legal analysis, and supporting their argument.)

The team takes home a prize of $1500 & a full-funded trip to Accra, Ghana for the 2026 Africa Privacy Symposium.

This is the second win in a row for Team UCU, following a 2025 victory in Tanzania.

UCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi welcomed regional semi-finalists of the Unwanted Witness Privacy Moot 2026 ahead of tomorrow’s Grand Finale at Uganda Christian University.
These competitions have brought together law students to explore privacy, data protection and digital rights while sharpening their research, advocacy and courtroom skills.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!
Uganda Christian University (UCU) School of Law has won the National Rounds of the Unwanted Witness Privacy Moot Court Competition, organised by Unwanted Witness.

UCU was represented by Deborah Mulungi Namiwanda and Nalukwago Evelyn Vanessa as the oralists. They were supported by Jeremiah Kalyesubula, Mugisha Timothy Brighton, Rukidi Jorum, Mawanda Irene Kateme, Rachel Nabiranda, Kukunda Noella, Alicia Mutebi and Monge Jovan Caleb. Deborah Mulungi Namiwanda also won the Best Female Oralist Award.

The team now goes on to represent Uganda at the Regional Rounds of the Privacy Moot, to be held on September 29, 2026, at Uganda Christian University Main Campus, Mukono. Other national champions from Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania will compete for the regional title.
