St. Henry's College Kitovu

Brother- founded College.

Founded in 1922 by the White Fathers and handed over to the Brothers of Christian Instruction in 1926, St. Henry’s College Kitovu (SHACK), is now preparing to celebrate a century of existence. The College is not only known for academic excellence but also emphasizes all round formation that transcends academic work.
SHACK, has a very rich menu of co-curricular activities that make life at the College not only admirable by the current crop of students and the Alumni, but also communities around the World.
The mothers of this country and the East African region as a whole have no doubt about the values instilled in the boys by the Brothers of Christian Instruction. This Holistic Education is evidenced in the numerous applications for vacancies. Unfortunately, the facility cannot accommodate all applicants.
Clubs and Societies:
Currently the College boasts of about fifteen Clubs and Societies; The Debate Club, Drama Club, Scouts Movement, Wild Life Club, Legion of Mary, ICT Club, Writers’ Club, Interact Club, The Y.C.S Movement, The Xaverian Movement, St. Peter the Apostle and SHACK Angels’ Choir, to mention but a few.
In 2016 the Scouts’ and debate clubs were the most outstanding. The Scouts did not only lift the National trophy but also represented the Country in the Regional competitions. They are currently the East African champions. The debaters too are East African champions. They represented the Country at the World Secondary Schools’ debate championship held in Stuttgart – German in September 2016.
Games and Sports activities include:
Football, Volley ball, Basketball, Wood ball, Hockey and Kikame. This is football, without a referee, non specific numbers of players on either side, no rules but makes the young men sweat and exercise during the one hour of games allocated on the College program every day. In the recent times nobody can claim to be an old boy I he did not play Kikame. Thank God SHACK is blessed to have six football pitches, a facility one will not find in any other School in Uganda.
The one outstanding activity we wish to revive is the SHACK BRASS BAND. Mr. Kinobe Ivan Stuart, a retired pharmacist and member of the SHACK brass band during his time as a student in the 1970s, has this to say, “This was the most exciting activity at the College; the most powerful Brass Band that only came next to the Uganda Army Brass Band at the time, and next to none in the category of Schools.” Unfortunately all the band equipment was looted during the 1979 war. From that time to date the enormous priorities on the Administrators’ plate have not made it possible to revive it.
As we begin centennial preparations we MUST bring back the SHACK BRASS BAND. It will help to tap into the great talent that is currently lying idle among our students.
The Deputy Head teacher, Mr. Busuulwa N. Felix, himself an old boy (1986 to 1988) has been charged with the responsibility to spearhead revival of the College Brass Band. It will cost Sh.24,515,600/=.
We appeal to the Old Boys, Parents (past and present) friends, well wishers and partners to contribute generously towards this cause. The Deputy Head teacher can be contacted on:
