STOP YOUR LAMENTATION ABOUT SCHOOL FEES & SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS.

I have over heard and read lamentations about school fees and school requirement. I recognize that they are so raised beyond normal. Citizens are lamenting like they have no government. They seem to say that they are supposed to look for the most expensive school for their children. We seem to imply that higher school fees imply high quality education. We have all become lamenters as if in most of our schools there are no systems and structures that determine how fees are set and parents must influence or participate. What happened to School Management Committees (SMC) and Parents Teachers Associations – PTAs? As if they announced school opening today. Who told us that it is a must to return the child to the very school he or she was in before the lockdown? Didn’t the Covid 19 lockdown teach us any lesson to take on in terms of financial and home decision making? Let me tell you the following:
1. A school can be very expensive but only teach your child good English.
2. Don’t base on tuition or costs to take your child to a particular school.
3. If you are borrowing to pay fees, perhaps that is not your school level but your wish school choice.
4. Have you assessed whether that school is an Income Generating Scheme or an education service provision point?
5. What is the level of advertising the school is making? Good schools are advertised by the products not media.
6. Did whoever study from high class chool typically guarantee him or her success in life?
7. May you try to differentiate between learning and fees.
8. There are also very good government aided primary and secondary schools which are not necessarily expensive where you can take your child.
9. Instead of lamenting, engage your government to play a regulatory or support role.
10. Have you noticed that those in government/state are at ease? Their children now study from international schools and or abroad.
11. Where are the last years’ savings? I mean for the fees we didn’t pay 2020-2021? Asking for my friend here who has told me about financial literacy.
12. If you sell land to pay school fees, maybe that is not your school level. You could be trying to imitate your colleagues’ to fit where they are.
13. There are all classes of schools. Like hotels, all food points have menus. You choose where to eat from. There are schools that can guarantee your child quality education but not too expensive.
14. Serious parents should engage their schools if they think that their fees are way above their service.
15. If your school increased fees and requirements without your input, that school will prepare your child for quality academic attainments but not education. Education is liberating, participatory and empowering.
16. In the 2 years we have been with our children, have we seen a school that will help these children attain their dreams or we are in an English speaking contestation.
17. Your child’s school should be yours not that of your business associates or corporate group thinks or friends.
18. What if you manage to pay fees only for 1 term and fail. What if you used the same amount for 1 expensive school to pay for 3 terms of the year in a good not expensive school?
19. Who is guiding you to identify a good school?
20. Does school structure or buildings guarantee quality education?
21. What is the input of your child in the choice of school you are taking him or her.
22. Have you asked yourself about sustainability questions?
