Special Children's Trust

Special Children's Trust The Special Children’s Trust is a charity organization based in Kampala, Uganda, East Africa. The aim is to link these organizations so as to:

1.

The Special Children’s Trust was established to meet the needs of families in Uganda who have children with special needs, in whatever way possible, whilst also showing them the extent of the love God has for them and the family He blessed them with. We have both CBO (Community Based Organization) and NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) status. CBO Reg No: NAK/11/065
NGO Reg No: S.5914/9715

One i

n every 10 children in Uganda is born with some form of disability. These range from extremely severe physical and/or mental disabilities, to very mild ones that are hardly noticeable. However, most communities still view disability as a bad omen, bad luck, punishment or a curse for the sins the parents must have committed. Some people see disability as witchcraft or a contagious condition that should be avoided, which leave families who have children with disabilities alone and isolated. The lack of readily available support and information to parents prevents them from giving their children quality care at an early age, which in turn increases the severity of the children’s condition. The Trust was created as an umbrella organization for the projects and efforts started by Miss Namaganda Florence, who is one of the founders and directors of Mukisa Foundation and Dawn Children’s Centre, and several other efforts for children with disabilities in Uganda. To promote quality care for children with special needs by providing the necessary information about available services, and funding for operations, assistive devices and any other that may be needed to achieve this objective.

2. To demystify disability through information dissemination, awareness campaigns and training for carers and families of children with special needs.

3. To promote inclusion of children with special needs into regular schools and ensure that they access quality education according their abilities.

4. To build the capacity of people working with children with special needs such as Medical workers, therapists, carers, vision bearers through trainings, information dissemination and resource mobilization.

5. To create a network of likeminded organizations so as to provide support, prevent duplication and improve quality of services available for children with special needs.

6. To provide a platform for the children, parents, and organizations working with children who have special needs to advocate for the rights and issues of children with disabilities in Uganda.

WOW!!! We have no words to express the joy and gratitude we felt yesterday to hold the Dawn Children's Centre Sports Day on our very own land for the very first time.

Children were excited, parents were excited and the team was excited. Racing, running, rolling, building, sponge squeezing, balancing, playing and so much more took place yesterday as children with and without special needs engaged and flourished together in a fun filled day of sports, dancing and music.

At Dawn, we're taught we can achieve, if we reset our mind,
When we work hard, truly believe, and leave no one behind.
With each sunrise, Dawn begins, we start each day anew,
We flourish together, hand in hand, a loving, vibrant crew.

Inclusion Begins With Me
No Child Left Behind

A huge thank you goes out this Monday morning to the Christian Fellowship School in England, for the donation of 2 drums to our music department at Dawn Children's Centre. The children are overjoyed and cant wait to start using them to create beautiful music. We are now able to add more drummers to our school band and give more children a chance and opportunity to learn how to play.

Who is a hero? someone who is admired for their courage, selflessness, and noble qualities, and who is willing to take risks or make sacrifices in order to help others or achieve a noble goal.

Today we celebrate our heroes, our Mama's and Papa's of children with disabilities, our siblings of children with disabilities, our teachers, therapists and others...and not forgetting the children themselves, whose resilience, determination and courage keep them fighting another day to learn and grow.

We celebrate you all.
