The department has for two decades maintained a vibrant training programme in Journalism and Communication education in Uganda.

The Department of Journalism and Communication, formerly Department of Mass Communication, was established in 1988 as the first degree-offering programme of its kind in East Africa. The Department aims to continuously improve the quality of academic programmes, teaching, learning and research through regular curriculum and staff evaluations, controlled enrolment, student support services and staff development.
