Our advocacy and support programs for adolescent girls and young women inspire empowerment. ROSE'S JOURNEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND (RJSF). The goal of the fund is to be able to support nursing students who are deserving, have demonstrated financial need, and have the potential to emulate some of the defining values and the spirit of Rose's Journey: A dedication to the pursuit of excellence in service; A servant heart, Hard work, Passion for nursing, Passion for humanity, Resilience, and A demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and enable others in communities. ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Enrolled in a full-time undergraduate nursing program working towards a bachelor’s degree; Unless specified, students must be in their second year of study; Must have a demonstrable record of leadership and service to the community; Academic achievement; Demonstrated need for financial support to complete their studies. WHY SUPPORT
I do believe that at the core of leadership is the ability to Dream, Inspire and Enable others to reach their full potential. Someone did that for me and now I spend much of my time trying to pay it forward. I know that this is work worth doing! The state of Nursing Education, Practice, Regulation and Leadership in Uganda has, in recent months, gained much needed attention because of the global Nursing Now Campaign 2020 (NNC). The goals of the NNC include:
Greater investment in improving education, professional development, standards, regulation, and employment conditions for nurses; Increased and improved dissemination of effective and innovative practice in nursing; Greater influence for nurses and midwives on global and national health policy, as part of broader efforts to ensure health workforces are more involved in decision-making; More nurses in leadership positions and more opportunities for development at all levels; And more evidence for policy and decision makers about: where nursing can have the greatest impact, what is stopping nurses from reaching their full potential and how to address these obstacles. THE NEED
Nurses make up 73% of the health workforce in Uganda (MoH, 2017). However, there has been minimal growth in the number of nurses the country needs to achieve universal health coverage. Between 2004 and 2007 the density ratio of nurse/midwife to patients was reported at 0.70 (2004) and 0.65 (2015) per 1000 people respectively (Trending Economics, 2019). Which indicates a worsening trend as these figures remain well below the nationally and globally recommended norm. Uganda’s population, currently reported at 45,160,468 with a yearly growth rate of 3.26% (United Nations Estimates, 2019), largely outpaces the capacity of the current healthcare workforce. Nurse to patient ratio reported at 1:11000 are well below the WHO recommended ratios of 1:1000. Uganda graduates, on average, 3000 nurses every year from all the training schools around the country and currently has a total of 61,000 nurses (UNMC, 2017). However, 70% (43,160) of these nurses are certificate holders (Enrolled Nurses/Midwives) with limited capacity to provide evidence-based practice or participate meaningfully in healthcare reforms. 28% are diploma holders while only 2% are degree holders. With these dismal figures, the country not only needs to increase the number of available nurses, but also the quality and effectiveness of the current and future nursing workforce. Most students who wish to pursue a nursing degree face significant financial challenges. THE SOLUTION
The RJSF was established to contribute to this gap. For $6,500, you can support a nursing or midwifery student to secure a bachelor's degree in four years ($813 a semester.) Celebrating Michael Okot, RJ Alumnus
ECN, BSc in nursing, Post Graduate Diploma Medical Education MSc in Pharmacology, MSc in Toxicology(ongoing)

My journey in health sciences has been shaped not only by ambition, but by moments where support made all the difference. One of the most defining turning points in my academic life was receiving Rose’s journey scholarship during my bachelor of degree nursing sciences (BNS) at Clarke International University. At a time when I was stuck and uncertain about how to complete my tuition, this scholarship came as a lifeline. It did more than just ease of financial burden, it restored my hope, focus, and determination to continue.

Because of that support, I was able to complete my degree and move forward without constant weight of financial stress. That opportunity opened doors I once thought were out of reach. Today, I hold a master’s degree in pharmacology, a post graduate diploma in medical education, and I am currently pursuing a master’s in Toxicology at the University of Eastern Finland.

Each step forward in my journey reflects the impact of timely support and belief from others. My academic and professional interest are now strongly centered on drug research, patient’s safety and the safe use of medicines, areas where I hope to contribute meaningfully to health care systems and improve patients’ outcomes.

Looking back, the Rose’s journey scholarship was not just financial assistance, it was an investment in my future. It reminds me that when barriers are removed, potentials can truly flourish. I remained committed to using the knowledge and skills I have gained to give back, mentor others, and contribute to safer and more effective health care for all.

My name is Nabukwasi Sheilla, and I am a proud beneficiary of the Rose’s Journey Scholarship Fund. Receiving this scholarship has been one of the most defining moments in my academic journey, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity and support extended to me.

I still vividly remember receiving the email on 20th February 2024 confirming that I had been selected as a recipient for the scholarship. It was a moment filled with joy, relief, and renewed hope, hope that my dreams were valid and within reach.

Through the support of Rose’s Journey, I was able to fully dedicate myself to my studies and successfully complete my Diploma in Pharmacy. I am proud to share that I graduated on 27th March 2026 with a CGPA of 4.38. This achievement is not just a personal milestone, but a testament to the impact of the support I received.

This scholarship did more than just ease financial challenges, it gave me confidence, motivation, and the courage to aim higher. It reminded me that there are people who believe in my potential, and that alone pushed me to strive for excellence.

As I move forward into my professional journey, I carry with me a strong sense of purpose and responsibility. I am committed to using my knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare sector and to give back to my community.

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Rose’s Journey Scholarship Fund for investing in my future and being part of my success story. Your support has truly changed my life, and I will forever be grateful.

So delighted to see another cohort of Rose’s Journey Scholars graduate with degrees in nursing and clinical medicine.

The Rose’s Journey Scholarship Fund provides critical first-mile and last-mile support to health professional students from disadvantaged backgrounds, young people with a deep passion for healthcare, for learning, research, and service.

HOW THE RJSF HAS IMPACTED MY MEDICAL JOURNEY
Thanks to the Rose's Journey Support Fund (RJSF), my journey in clinical medicine has been made much easier. Established by Dr. Rose C. Nanyonga, this fund helps medical students who show promise and share the values of Rose's Journey.
The RJSF has eased the financial burden of a diploma in clinical medicine for me. With their support, I can focus on studying and gaining clinical experience without worrying about money.
Being part of the RJSF community has been inspiring. I've met other students and mentors who believe in providing excellent care with compassion and resilience. This motivates me to excel in my studies and be a caring doctor.

The fund taught me the importance of empathy and putting patients first. Through workshops and mentorship, I've learned to be humble and advocate for my patients' well-being.
Additionally, the RJSF encouraged me to take on leadership roles and make positive changes in healthcare. With their guidance, I feel confident in making a difference in the medical field.
Overall, the Rose's Journey Support Fund has been a huge help in my medical journey. It's not just about money; it's about community, inspiration, and making a meaningful impact in healthcare. I'm grateful for their support in shaping me into the doctor I aspire to be.
