Empowering Youth Through Skills Development at Kagadi Institute of Science and Technology (KISTEC)

A new semester has begun at Kagadi Institute of Science and Technology (KISTEC), and with it comes renewed hope for hundreds of young people in rural Uganda seeking a second chance through skills education.
At KISTEC, we are committed to transforming the lives of youth who lack employable skills—particularly school dropouts and vulnerable young people. Despite operating with limited resources, we continue to create meaningful and measurable impact by equipping learners with practical, hands-on skills that lead to employment, self-reliance, and entrepreneurship.
We invite you to partner with us in bridging the skills gap among Uganda’s youth.
Your support can make a life-changing difference by:
Donating training materials and equipment
Providing tools and startup kits for graduates
Sponsoring a student’s tuition and training
Supporting workshop infrastructure development
We currently offer vocational training programs in:
Tailoring and Garment Cutting
Welding and Metal Fabrication
Motorcycle Mechanics
Electrical Installation
Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
By investing in skills development, you are not only supporting an individual student—you are strengthening families, communities, and the local economy.
We welcome partnerships with individuals, organizations, foundations, and corporate sponsors who share our vision of empowering youth through practical education.

Today, I was deeply encouraged after receiving an email from one of our Computer Holiday Program students, Ajunaboona Mukisa. In his message, he expressed heartfelt appreciation for the skills, attitude, and confidence he has gained through Computer Applications training at KISTEC.

What touched me most is his commitment to go back to Kibaale District and proudly advocate for KISTEC, sharing his experience with others. He also appreciated the warm, friendly, and supportive environment created by both the Director and the Principal, and he offered sincere prayers for God’s blessings upon the entire leadership.

Messages like these remind us why we do what we do.

This is what sets KISTEC apart.
We don’t just teach computer skills—we shape mindsets, build confidence, and prepare young people for self-reliance and a better future.

We remain committed to our promise:
Skilling the youth of Uganda with practical, relevant digital skills for self-reliance and empowerment.

Shaping Market-Ready ICT Professionals. KISTEC Students Visit ICT Enterprises in Kagadi
Today, our Computer Holiday Program students had an exciting and eye-opening field experience as we toured various ICT-related businesses around Kagadi Town. This activity was designed to expose learners to established ICT enterprises within the community and help them meaningfully connect classroom learning with real-world practice.

During the visits, students were guided by technical professionals running these businesses, who generously shared practical knowledge and real industry experiences. Learners gained hands-on exposure to essential services such as printing, scanning, and photocopying, and developed a deeper understanding of how ICT skills are applied in day-to-day business operations.
This field activity is part of the broader vision of KISTEC—to train innovative, resilient, creative, and business-oriented human resources that meet local, national, and international aspirations. Through this experience, students have been inspired, empowered, and equipped with the confidence and practical insight needed to compete effectively in the existing ICT market.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Sunlight Art Centre, Robins Bureau, New World Creative Designers Kagadi, and Computer Village for their support, mentorship, and commitment to guiding our students during this valuable learning experience.

From Volunteer to Business Owner: Kemigisa’s Journey from KISTEC to Success
In a world where youth unemployment continues to challenge the dreams of many, Kemigisa Ajuna stands out as a shining example of how practical skills and resilience can turn humble beginnings into lasting success.

Kemigisa, a proud graduate of Kagadi Institute of Science and Technology (KISTEC), completed her course in Tailoring and Fashion Design with hope in her heart and a determination to rewrite her future. Her journey didn’t begin with grandeur—she started as a volunteer in a local workshop in Kikuube District, earning only a modest allowance.

But she didn’t complain. She saved diligently, and with her small savings, Kemigisa made bold moves. She purchased a tailoring machine, paid rent for one month, and used the remaining UGX 30,000 to buy just two pieces of Kitenge fabric. That was all she had—but it was enough to spark a journey of transformation.

Today, Kemigisa’s tailoring business is worth over UGX 5,000,000. She now earns a sustainable income, takes care of her family, and is even supporting her siblings’ education. Her story is not just inspiring—it is a testament to the power of vocational education.

“KISTEC gave me the skills and mindset to create my own path. I am proud to say that I’m not just employed—I’m empowered,” says Kemigisa.

KISTEC: Skills for Self-Reliance
At KISTEC, we don’t just train students—we build futures. Our curriculum is designed to nurture values of resilience, innovation, flexibility, creativity, unity, and integrity. Kemigisa is just one of the many graduates proving that with the right training and mindset, self-reliance is not a dream—it's a reality.

As we celebrate her success, we are reminded of our mission: to empower youth with practical, employable skills that can lift families and communities out of poverty.

A Call for Strategic Partnerships
KISTEC is committed to scaling this impact, but we cannot do it alone.

We are calling on:

The Government of Uganda

Development Partners

Donor Agencies

Corporate Foundations

Well-wishers and Philanthropists
Partner with us to expand training opportunities, provide start-up toolkits, create incubation hubs, and support the dreams of thousands more like Kemigisa. Your support can turn skills into jobs, and jobs into lasting change.

Be Part of the Change
Kemigisa’s story is just the beginning. Let’s join hands to create hundreds more success stories across Uganda.
