Oulu A city in Finland

It is the largest theater in northern Finland. It was built in 1972 and is of no particular interest from the outside now, except that the premium location only attracts attention.

The city has good opportunities for roller skating and cycling. Here are popular skiing and sailing, hockey, Finnish baseball, football, swimming, athletics, equestrian sports. The city has the world's northernmost 36-hole golf course. Ski runs and sailing regattas are popular here.

The University of Oulu (Finnish: Oulun yliopisto) was founded in 1958. It is one of the largest universities in Finland. In 2015, 14,221 students studied here at 6 faculties. The university is part of the Botanical Garden (Finnish: Oulun yliopiston kasvitieteellinen puutarha), located on the main campus of the university in Linnanmaa, a suburb of Oulu.

In the center of the city is an architectural monument - the Cathedral, built in 1777. In 1822 the building was badly damaged by fire. Its reconstruction lasted more than 20 years, during which time a new bell tower was erected. Over the years, the cathedral has retained its unique design, it retains the old chair, organ, shelves with ancient prayer books. The main feature of the design is a huge model of the ship, fixed under the vault of the cathedral.

Located in the northwest of the country, at the confluence of the river Oulujoki in the Gulf of Bothnia in the Baltic Sea. Founded in 1605, Oulu is the oldest city in northern Finland. It acquired the status of a city in the same year. By the middle of the XVIII century from the port town of Oulu became a major center of shipbuilding. In 1882, almost all buildings were destroyed by fire. For the second time, the city had to be rebuilt after World War II, as much of its historical heritage was lost.
