New LNG ships are without budget!

I honestly don’t understand what’s going on anymore.

We take over modern LNG vessels, brand new, full of advanced systems… and somehow, the budget for the whole year is gone in the first month of the year.

Before, everything was planned yearly. Stores were coming every 3 months, there were always spares onboard.

Now it’s monthly budgeting, 6-month supply cycles… and we are already over budget right after we start. WTF?

And it’s not about something extra. We are talking about basics. Batteries for torchlights. Stationery. Soap. Toilet paper. Things you simply cannot operate a ship without.

At the same time, we hear: “the vessel is under guarantee”. Fine. But in reality, there are systems onboard without a single spare available. Critical systems. When the crew identifies risks and makes requisitions - they are not approved. Or just ignored for months!

Superintends in the office - you’ve been at sea. You know this work. You know the “kitchen”. You know that some spares take 3–6 months just to be produced, not even delivered onboard.

Equipment doesn’t wait for budget approval to fail.

So what is the plan here?

Wait until something breaks?
Wait until the vessel is off-hire?
Wait until operations are affected?

Because that’s exactly where this is going.

This is not saving money. This is shifting risk onto the vessel and the crew. And when something goes wrong, it won’t be the budget that deals with it - it will be the people onboard.

We are ready to do the job. But we need at least the minimum to do it properly.

What’s your experience with this lately?
