Furo can be bred both in purity and by crossing with wild ones. They mate freely with the black ferret, resulting in crossbreeds called "thujofretki" in Poland (ie "chorefretki"), and in Great Britain - polecat-ferret hybrids.

In the 1970s, scientists (including D. Ternovsky) proved that furo is an albino form of black ferret. For example, they have the same diploid number of chromosomes (40), and the studied and first described karyotype of light ferret has 38. The latest method of studying the fine structure of chromosomes convincingly confirmed the morphological identity of karyotypes of furo and black ferret, their difference from light. The biological proximity of furo with black ferret is also confirmed by the same gestational age (40-42 days), which is shorter in light (37-38 days).

In zoology and animal husbandry, furos are called only albino ferrets. The origin of the furo has long been a mystery to science. It has been hypothesized that the furo is a special domesticated form of forest (black) or steppe (light) chorus, or a hybrid between them, or a separate species in general - the so-called "African ferret".

Pregnancy occurs 2-3 times a year, in one brood up to 15 individuals. They are born blind and helpless, their mother feeds them milk, and from the age of two weeks she feeds them with ordinary food. In nature, they live an average of 3-4 years, at home - 5-7 years, rarely live to 8.

Three species, in Eurasia and North America; in Russia there are two species: forest or dark chorus (Latin Mustela putorius) and steppe or light chorus (Latin Mustela eversmanii). Body length in males - up to 50 cm, in females - up to 40; tail length - up to 18 cm. From ancient times the albino form of a dark chorus - furo is domesticated. Bred 2000 years ago in Southern Europe and for a long time replaced the cat, it was also used for hunting rabbits. Distinguished by a calm non-aggressive temperament.
