Fenek shows great agility and agility, the ability to jump high and far - up to 0.7 m up. Protective paint allows it to blend in with the sandy landscape; there is no evidence that larger predators prey on fennec. He has a well-developed sense of smell, hearing and excellent night vision.

Fennec is omnivorous and digs most of the feed from sand and earth. They hunt mostly alone, like all foxes. Fennel feeds on small vertebrates, eggs, insects (including locusts), carrion, plant roots and fruits. Huge ears allow him to catch the lightest rustle. Can do without water for a long time, getting liquid from meat, berries and leaves.

Fennecs are social animals; they live in family groups, the number of individuals in which reaches 10. Clans usually consist of one family pair, their immature offspring and possibly several older children. Sometimes several families settle together in one lair. The boundaries of the fennel home area are marked with urine and f***s. They are very "talkative": barking, whining, grumbling and howling.

Fennecs are widespread in the sandy deserts and semi-deserts of North Africa and northern Sinai, but the exact number of fennecs is unknown, and there is no detailed information on the number and status of the species. Nowadays [when?] Fennecs live in protected areas in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Niger and Tunisia. The species is listed in the CITES Convention in Appendix II (2000).

The largest populations of fennecs live in central Sahara, although they are found from northern Morocco to the Sinai and Arabian Peninsulas, and in the south - to Niger, Chad and Sudan. Fennec inhabits sandy deserts, where he likes to stick to thickets of grass and sparse shrubs, which provide him with shelter and food. He lives in burrows that he digs himself; leads a nocturnal lifestyle.

Fennec is the smallest member of the canine family, it is smaller than domestic cats. Height at the withers 18-22 cm, body length - 30-40 cm, tail - up to 30 cm, it weighs up to 1.5 kg. Muzzle short, pointed. The eyes are big. Fennec ears are the largest among predators in relation to the size of the head; they reach 15 cm in length and are needed for better cooling of the body in the heat of the day.
