In 1936, the first sea beach in Haifa was built in the area of Bat Galim. The British did not arrange the beaches, because they considered Haifa exclusively as a transshipment point for raw materials obtained from the Middle Eastern lands under their control. As a result, the entire coast of Haifa Bay was occupied by the port. Until now, Haifa beaches are located just west of Haifa, overlooking the open Mediterranean Sea.
