In 1936, the first sea beach in Haifa was built in the area of ​​Bat Galim. The British did not arrange the beaches, because they considered Haifa exclusively as a transshipment point for raw materials obtained from the Middle Eastern lands under their control. As a result, the entire coast of Haifa Bay was occupied by the port. Until now, Haifa beaches are located just west of Haifa, overlooking the open Mediterranean Sea.

The Bat Galim area was built in the early 1930s. Due to clashes between Jews and Arabs, the site for the new district was chosen so that the independent and self-sufficient settlement of German Templars Moshava Germanit (now Haifa district) would cover the new Jewish settlement from Haifa, Arabia in the east, and protected by Haifa Railway. - Tel Aviv - from the Arab settlement of Tirat-Carmel in the south. During the Jewish-Arab clashes of 1936-1939 and during the War of Independence in the Bat Galim district, however, we had to see militant Arabs and take part in the fighting.

West Haifa is an area that runs along the west coast of Haifa from Cape Carmel in the north to the city border in the south and includes areas located at the foot of Mount Carmel on the Mediterranean coast. West Haifa has about 40,000 inhabitants.

In 2006-07, the city had 70 primary schools, 23 secondary schools, 28 lyceums and 8 vocational secondary schools. 5133 were in kindergartens, 20081 in primary schools, 7911 in secondary schools, 8072 in lyceums, 2646 in vocational secondary schools. 86% of students attended Hebrew-language schools, 14% attended Arabic-language schools. Haifa has two world-famous universities and several colleges. The University of Haifa was founded in 1963 and is located on Mount Carmel. The Hecht Museum is located on the campus of the University of Haifa. Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) was founded in 1924. It consists of 18 faculties and 42 research institutes. Israel's first technological college, Basmat, was founded in Haifa in 1933.

Haifa is an important transport, industrial and cultural center that affects the entire state of Israel and is one of Israel's maritime trade centers. From the earliest days it was a port city. Even in the 2000s, one of the city's symbols is the port of Haifa, one of Israel's two largest trading ports.
