Meet the Ukrainian coordinator of the project – V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University.
One of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Ukraine, Karazin University has been combining educational traditions, advanced scientific research, and active international cooperation for more than 220 years. The University is a powerful scientific and educational center that prepares highly qualified specialists and makes a significant contribution to the development of science in Ukraine and beyond.
The University is known for its scientific schools, participation in international projects and grant programmes, as well as close cooperation with scientific institutions and partners around the world. Today, Karazin University brings together 26 faculties and educational and research institutes. Natural sciences, represented by the Education and Research Institute of Chemistry and the School of Biology, are a particularly important part of the University's academic landscape
Within the BOOSTSCIENCE project, the Karazin University team brings its many years of experience in the field of natural sciences, modern educational approaches, and international cooperation to modernise Master's degree education in Chemistry and Biology. The Education and Research Institute of Chemistry and the School of Biology maintain active scientific links with Ukrainian and foreign research centres, and their scientists and students regularly participate in international research projects and mobility programmes.
As a project partner and coordinator of the Ukrainian higher education institutions, Karazin University contributes to the development of innovative educational programmes, strengthening links between universities and employers, and shaping a new generation of professionals ready to respond to the challenges of modern science and the labour market. It is this kind of cooperation that helps create high-quality, competitive, and future-oriented education.

Prof. Valentyn Chebanov, one of the BOOSTSCIENCE project managers representing the SSI “Institute for Single Crystals” of NASU, has become a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC).
Prof. Chebanov is First Deputy Director General of SSI ISC, Director of the Institute of Functional Materials Chemistry, and a Full Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The MRSC status represents international recognition of a scientist’s professional excellence and significant contribution to the advancement of chemical science.
For Ukrainian chemists, membership in the Royal Society of Chemistry​ - one of the world’s most respected scientific organizations​ - is not only a prestigious distinction but also an important step towards deeper integration into the global scientific community. It provides access to leading scientific resources and professional networks while strengthening international academic cooperation and visibility.

Професор Валентин Чебанов, один з керівників проекту BOOSTSCIENCE, що представляє ДНУ «Інститут монокристалів» НАНУ, став членом Королівського хімічного товариства (MRSC).
Професор Чебанов є першим заступником генерального директора ДНУ ISC, директором Інституту хімії функціональних матеріалів та дійсним членом Національної академії наук України.
Статус MRSC є міжнародним визнанням професійної майстерності вченого та значного внеску в розвиток хімічної науки.
Для українських хіміків членство в Королівському хімічному товаристві — одній з найшанованіших наукових організацій світу — є не лише престижною відзнакою, але й важливим кроком до глибшої інтеграції у світову наукову спільноту. Science meets the labor market
What skills will tomorrow’s scientists and skilled workers need?
How can universities prepare graduates not just for a diploma project, but for a successful career?
Within Task 2.2 of the international Erasmus+ CBHE project “BOOSTSCIENCE”, partners from Europe and Ukraine are exploring Ukrainian labor market trends to better understand the evolving demand for Biology and Chemistry graduates.
To make this analysis truly grounded in reality, the project team conducted an online survey of 18 Ukrainian employers and participated in a meeting with representatives of the pharmaceutical industry, where the BOOSTSCIENCE project was presented and discussed. These conversations provide valuable insights into employers’ expectations, current challenges, and the competencies most needed in today’s labor market.
Science and industry must move forward together. That is why BOOSTSCIENCE is helping shape educational programmes that respond to real-world challenges, employer expectations, and innovation needs.
We believe that future graduates should not only be qualified — they should be truly needed, competitive, and ready to change the world through science.

Які навички знадобляться майбутнім науковцям і кваліфікованим працівникам?
Як університети можуть підготувати випускників не лише до дипломного проєкту, а й до успішної кар'єри?
У межах Завдання 2.2 міжнародного проєкту Erasmus+ CBHE «BOOSTSCIENCE» партнери з Європи та України досліджують тенденції українського ринку праці, щоб краще зрозуміти мінливий попит на випускників біологічних та хімічних спеціальностей.
Щоб цей аналіз справді обґрунтувався реальністю, команда проєкту провела онлайн-опитування 18 українських роботодавців та взяла участь у зустрічі з представниками фармацевтичної галузі, де було представлено та обговорено проєкт BOOSTSCIENCE. Ці розмови дають цінну інформацію про очікування роботодавців, поточні виклики та компетенції, найбільш необхідні на сучасному ринку праці.
Наука та промисловість повинні рухатися вперед разом. Саме тому BOOSTSCIENCE допомагає формувати освітні програми, які відповідають реальним викликам, очікуванням роботодавців та потребам в інноваціях.
Ми вважаємо, що майбутні випускники повинні бути не лише кваліфікованими – вони повинні бути справді потрібними, конкурентоспроможними та готовими змінювати світ через науку.

Meet the coordinator of the project - Hellenic Open University (HOU)
⚡ As the project coordinator, HOU leads an international consortium united by innovation, collaboration, and impact in Higher Education.
HOU is one of Greece’s leading public universities specializing in open and distance education, known for promoting inclusive, flexible, and high-quality learning opportunities while advancing research, innovation, and international cooperation across Europe.
HOU is involved in BOOSTSCIENCE with the 🔬Laboratory of Chemistry, 🧬the Laboratory of Biology, and the Dynamic Ambient Intelligent Sociotechnical Systems (DAISSy) Research Group of the School of Science and Technology 💻, under the scientific coordination of Professor of Chemistry Kyriakos Bourikas. The team also includes Associate Prof. Argyro Sgourou, Prof. Achilles Kameas, Assistant Prof. Magda Spella, and the researchers Sofia Tsitou, John Zafeiropoulos, Konstantina Fani, Athanasios Tsevis.

On Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv took part in the X International Scientific Conference Prospects for the Development of Entrepreneurship from a Global Perspective, organized by the University of Lodz, Poland. In his presentation, he emphasized the peculiarity of the ERASMUS+ PROJECT “BOOSTSCIENCE (Boosting Education Quality and Entrepreneurial Mindsets for Natural Sciences in Ukraine)” - namely, strengthening the interaction between universities and enterprises at the stage of training future specialists. As can be seen from the topic of the presentation, a similar problem concerns many universities, so the project team is ready to share ideas with new partners not only in Ukraine, but also in Europe and the world.

У середу, 15 квітня 2026 року, декан хімічного факультету Львівського національного університету імені Івана Франка взяв участь у X Міжнародній науковій конференції «Перспективи розвитку підприємництва з глобальної точки зору», організованій Лодзьким університетом, Польща. У своїй презентації він наголосив на особливості ПРОЄКТУ ERASMUS+ «BOOSTSCIENCE (Boosting Education Quality and Entrepreneurial Mindsets for Natural Sciences in Ukraine)», а саме на посиленні взаємодії між університетами та підприємствами на етапі підготовки майбутніх спеціалістів. Як видно з теми презентації, подібна проблема стосується багатьох університетів, тож команда проєкту готова ділитись ідеями з новими партнерами не лише в Україні, а й у Європі і світі.

🔬 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘆

A comprehensive survey was conducted among key stakeholders in Ukrainian higher education and research.
The goal was clear: to identify gaps between academic training and real labour market needs in the fields of Biology and Chemistry.
The results highlight strong engagement from both students and academics. The survey gathered valuable input from: 175 students, 89 academic staff, 26 researchers, 18 company representatives.
Participants represented Ukrainian universities, including V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University, Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University,
This provides a solid evidence base for ✔ modernizing curricula, ✔ strengthening practical and research-oriented learning, ✔ aligning educational outcomes with market and innovation needs.
The findings will directly feed into the development of new BOOSTSCIENCE modules, interdisciplinary approaches, and enhanced cooperation with industry and research institutions.
BOOSTSCIENCE is not just a project – it is a step towards transforming natural sciences education in Ukraine.

🔬 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 у дії: результати опитування

Комплексне опитування було проведене серед ключових стейкхолдерів у сфері вищої освіти та науки України.
Метою було виявлення прогалин між академічною підготовкою та реальними потребами ринку праці у галузях біології та хімії.
Результати демонструють високий рівень залученості як студентів, так і викладачів. В опитуванні взяли участь: 175 студентів, 89 науково-педагогічних працівників, 26 дослідників і 18 представників бізнесу
Учасниками опитування виступили представники Харківського національного університету імені В. Н. Каразіна, Донецького національного університету імені Василя Стуса, Карпатського національного університету імені Василя Стефаника, Львівського національного університету імені Івана Франка та Одеського національного університету імені І. І. Мечникова.
Це формує надійну доказову базу для ✔ модернізації освітніх програм,
✔ посилення практичної та дослідницької складової навчання, ✔ узгодження результатів навчання з потребами ринку та інновацій
Отримані результати безпосередньо будуть покладені в основу розробки нових модулів BOOSTSCIENCE, впровадження міждисциплінарних підходів та посилення співпраці з бізнесом і науковими установами.
BOOSTSCIENCE – це не просто проєкт, а крок до трансформації природничої освіти в Україні.

On March 25-31, 2026, the III stage of the All-Ukrainian High School Student Chemistry Olympiad was held in Lviv, with 157 students from across Ukraine participating. The Olympiad took place in three rounds - two theoretical and one experimental, which took place at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. On Thursday, March 26, the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Hryhoriy Dmytriv, presented the Erasmus+ Boostscience project to all participants of the Olympiad. This was very important because today's high school students will soon become students at chemical faculties of universities in Ukraine, and this project will help them succeed in the Ukrainian chemical labor market, where prospects are growing every year.

25-31 березня 2026 року у Львові відбувся ІІІ етап Всеукраїнської учнівської олімпіади з хімії, в якій взяли участь 157 учнів 8-11 класів з усієї України. Олімпіада відбувалася у три тури – два теоретичні та один експериментальний, що тривав на хімічному факультеті ЛНУ ім. Івана Франка. В четвер декан хімічного факультету Григорій Дмитрів представив усім учасникам Олімпіади проєкт Еразмус+ Boostscience. Це було дуже важливо, адже сьогоднішні учні скоро стануть студентами хімічних факультетів університетів України, і цей проєкт допомагатиме їм стати успішними на хімічному ринку праці України, де перспективи зростають з кожним роком.

On March 20-21, 2026, the XII International Conference “Modern Trends in Chemistry Teaching” was held at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in the following areas: teaching chemistry and natural sciences in educational institutions; methodological training of natural sciences teachers; motivation and formation of a sustainable interest in studying chemistry; research component of chemistry teacher activities; innovations in chemical education; priority areas of scientific research in the fields of chemistry and education.

During the conference, the report “Erasmus+ Project “BOOSTSCIENCE (Boosting Education Quality and Entrepreneurial Mindsets for Natural Sciences in Ukraine)” – Educational Prospects for Master’s Students in Chemistry and Biology” was presented by the coordinator of the project at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Hryhoriy Dmytriv. In his report, he discussed the tasks facing the BOOSTSCIENCE project consortium and shared the results.

20-21 березня 2026 року у Львівському національному університеті імені Івана Франка відбулась XIІ Міжнародна конференція “Сучасні тенденції навчання хімії” за такими напрями: навчання хімії та природничих дисциплін у закладах освіти; методична підготовка вчителів природничих дисциплін; мотивація та формування стійкого інтересу до вивчення хімії; дослідницька складова діяльності вчителя хімії; інновації в хімічній освіті; пріоритетні напрями наукових досліджень у галузях хімії та освіти.
В ході роботи конференції була представлена доповідь «Erasmus+ Project “BOOSTSCIENCE (Boosting Education Quality and Entrepreneurial Mindsets for Natural Sciences in Ukraine)” – Educational Prospects for Master’s Students in Chemistry and Biology», яку здійснив координар проєкту у Львівському національному університеті імені Івана Франка, декан хімічного факультету Григорій Дмитрів. В своїй доповіді він розповів про завдання, які стоять перед консорціумом проєкту BOOSTSCIENCE та поділився напрацюваннями, які зроблені на сьогоднішній день.

On March 16, a meeting of the Coordination Council of the Pharmaceutical Cluster of the Kharkiv Region was held at the National University of Pharmacy, during which current educational challenges in the fields of chemistry, biology, and pharmacy were discussed.
Among its members, the Cluster includes representatives of the Erasmus+ 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 project from V. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Oleg Kalugin, Oleksandr Kyrychenko) and the SSI “Institute for Single Crystals” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Valentyn Chebanov, Olesia Kulyk).
At the meeting, Oleg Kalugin, Director of the Education and Research Institute of Chemistry at V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, presented the mission of the 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 project, highlighting the importance of developing innovative educational modules. Their aim is to increase interest in natural sciences and enhance the competitiveness of graduates in the labour market.
💡 The discussion generated significant interest among participants and highlighted a shared vision: the development of natural science disciplines is a key driver of innovation and sustainable growth in the pharmaceutical sector.

🔬 Освітні виклики природничих наук у фокусі Фармацевтичного кластеру Харківського регіону
16 березня на базі Національного фармацевтичного університету відбулося засідання Координаційної ради Фармацевтичного кластеру Харківського регіону, під час якого було обговорено сучасні освітні виклики у хімічній, біологічній та фармацевтичній сферах.
До складу Кластеру входять виконавці проєкту Erasmus+ 𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 від ХНУ ім. В. Н. Каразіна (к.х.н. Олег Калугін, д.х.н. Олександр Кириченко) та НТК «Інститут монокристалів» НАН України (академік НАН України Валентин Чебанов, к.х.н. Олеся Кулик).
На засіданні директор ННІ хімії ХНУ ім. В. Н. Каразіна Олег Калугін презентував місію проєкту𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 , акцентувавши увагу на важливості створення інноваційних освітніх модулів. Їхня мета – підвищення зацікавленості природничими науками та посилення конкурентоспроможності випускників на ринку праці.
💡 Обговорення викликало значний інтерес серед учасників і підкреслило спільне бачення: розвиток природничих спеціальностей є ключовим чинником інновацій та сталого розвитку фармацевтичної галузі.

On January 15–16, 2026, a kick-off meeting of the international consortium of the BOOSTSCIENCE project “Improving the Quality of Education and Developing Entrepreneurial Thinking in the Field of Natural Sciences in Ukraine” took place in Athens in a mixed format (face-to-face and online). The project is implemented with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union 🇪🇺.

🏛️ The event was hosted by the Hellenic Open University and brought together representatives of partner universities. The meeting continued the initial stage of the project implementation and focused on clarifying the next steps of its ex*****on.

🎤 The kick-off meeting was opened by the project coordinator, Professor Kyriakos Bourikas, who welcomed all participants and presented the Hellenic Open University.

🗂️ During the meeting, participants discussed the specifics of project implementation, taking into account Ukrainian and European realities and Erasmus+ Programme requirements, as well as key aspects of management and coordination, quality assurance procedures, the BOOSTSCIENCE strategic roadmap, and further steps in developing and implementing training modules within the educational programmes of Ukrainian partner universities.

🤝 The working meeting in Athens marked the first step in consolidating the partnership, defining future actions, and strengthening cooperation among consortium members for the successful implementation of the BOOSTSCIENCE project—highlighting the key role of professional international communication.
