Every night, scientists at NSF NOIRLab use world-class telescopes to explore everything from planets orbiting other stars to distant galaxies. From Arizona to Hawai‘i to Chile, our observatories help answer some of the biggest questions: How did the Universe begin? Are we alone? What’s out there waiting to be discovered?

This timelapse image shows streaking star trails above NSF Nicholas U. Mayall 4-meter Telescope at NSF Kitt Peak National Observatory, a Program of NSF NOIRLab.

Зібрав для вас ключові моменти випробування Starship в окреме відео. 6 хвилин — і побачите головне.

А тепер спати. Зранку дайджест, у вівторок дуже детальний розбір польоту.

A virtual telescope with a diameter of up to 200 metres, that is what we get when we combine the light gathered by the Unit and Auxiliary Telescopes at Paranal.

Called the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI), it can capture some of the sharpest views of the Universe.

How does this work? Here's your VLTI 101, with 👇

in 2022, the Event Horizon Telescope released a breathtaking new view of the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy, Sagittarius A* (pronounced A-star). Our Chandra X-ray Observatory, NuSTAR, and Swift helped keep an eye on it during the April 2017 observations: https://go.nasa.gov/3Rkc3vj

⭐🌌 Somewhere in Arizona, a telescope is helping map the Universe in 3D

This view of the NSF Nicholas U. Mayall 4-meter Telescope at NSF Kitt Peak National Observatory, a Program of NSF NOIRLab, captures long star trails sweeping across the night sky.

The Mayall Telescope is home to the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) supported by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science, which has just completed mapping more than 47 millions of galaxies and quasars to create the largest high-resolution 3D map of the Universe ever made 🌌.

More than 50 years after first light, the Mayall is still spending its nights helping scientists explore one of astronomy’s biggest mysteries: dark energy.
