Liberec City in the Czech Republic

The Ukrainian Wanderer magazine, the first, handwritten issue, was published in Liberec on November 1, 1920. The magazine brought together artists, most of whom previously collaborated with the UGA press office, namely: lieutenants Ivan Ivanets and Julian Butsmanyuk, four Yaroslav Fartukh, I. Sarden, Mykhailo Brynsky and Volodymyr Kobrynsky, cornet player Vasyl Kasiyan, archers Vasyl Petruk, shooters Vasyl Petruk , Volodymyr Yatsenkiv, cornet player Onufriy Pasternak. The Ukrainian Wanderer was edited by a soldier of the Galician Army, Yakiv Holota.

In June 1927, on the initiative of the Ukrainian community of Liberec, a monument to the soldiers of the Mountain Brigade of the Ukrainian Galician Army was erected; On September 6, 2018, this monument, restored at the expense of Ukraine, was inaugurated at the Ruprechtice Military Cemetery [9]. The author of the project is a prominent graphic artist Vasyl Kasiyan, who painted the body of a murdered shooter, over whom his wife and two daughters froze in grief.

The city is famous for its town hall (1893, height - 65 m); the Church of the Holy Crucifix in the Baroque style; the TV tower on Mount Estedt, built in 1968 (now a symbol of the city); art gallery. There is a zoo - one of the most famous in Europe. The largest in the country shopping and entertainment center "Babylon".

An important center of the textile industry (wool, silk, cotton fabrics). Mechanical engineering (production of equipment for the textile industry, automotive - "Liberec Automobile Plant"). Textile fairs are held.

The city was first mentioned in 1348. The textile industry has been developed in the city since the 16th century. The city flourished at the end of the XIX century. In the XIX-XX centuries. the city had a significant German community. Liberec (Reichenberg) was the center of N**i Sudeten Germany.
