From some of the highest points of the city you can see Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. However, Lund is far from many other important cities in Sweden: about 250 kilometers from Gothenburg, 600 km from Stockholm and 1200 km from Umeå. However, the city of Malmo is only 15 km away.

Lund is located in Sweden's largest agricultural area in southwestern Sweden, less than 10 kilometers from the sandy shores of the Oresund Strait.

It is still believed that the city was founded by Knud the Great in about 1020. But recent archeological excavations have suggested that this event dates back to 990, when the inhabitants of the settlement of Uppåkra (Swedish: Uppåkra) moved to the site of the present Lund thanks to King Sven Viloborod. The distance from Uppokra to Lund is only 5 km, but Lund stands on a hill on the other side of the fjord, and therefore better protected.

Lund University, founded in 1666, is today one of the largest educational and research institutions in Scandinavia. [3] [4] [5] The Botanical Garden of Lund University, founded in 1690, is one of the oldest in Sweden.

It is believed that the city was founded in 990, when these lands belonged to Denmark. This area later became the Christian center of Northern Europe. Beginning in 1103, it was the residence of the archbishop. In the center of the city is the Lund Cathedral, built around 1090-1145.
