🌿 Why is May called “травень” in Ukrainian?

In Ukrainian, May is called травень — a name that sounds quite different from the Latin-based “May” used in English.

The word травень comes from трава, which means “grass.” 🌱
It reflects the time of year when grass grows rapidly, covering fields and landscapes in fresh, vibrant green. Nature is at its most lush and alive during this month.

🗓 How to say “in May”
➡️ у травні

📆 Dates
➡️ May 1st → перше травня

💬 Example:
• Я народився у травні. — I was born in May.
• У травні дуже гарна погода. — The weather is very nice in May.
