In just a short period of 40 years, Chicago's population grew from 30,000 to 1 million in 1890. Forty years later, Chicago's population tripled. By the end of the 19th century, Chicago was one of the five largest cities in the world and the first in the list of largest cities in population, which did not exist at the beginning of the century.

On August 12, 1833, the small town of Chicago was built with 350 inhabitants. Seven years later, its population was 4,000. It received the status of the city of Chicago on March 4, 1837.
