Until 1910, Kemer was a small village and was called Eskiköy (Turk. Eskiköy - "Old Village"). Only the fact that in ancient times the village was mentioned as the Lycian city of Idrios has survived. For many years, mudflows flooded the mountains from the mountains, forming first numerous lakes and then swampy swamps. To somehow protect themselves from this, the locals in 1910 began construction of a stone wall, which was completed only in 1917. As a result, the building stretched along the mountain slopes for 23 kilometers. From the outside it looked like a wall encircling the mountains, so the village received a new name - Kemer, which translated from Turkish means "belt" (another translation: "pocket").
