Valley of Geysers in Kamchatka, Russia
There is a beautiful legend: Kamchatka washed the brave and worthy people who passed its tests with living water. Later, people began to use living water unwisely, and Kamchatka hid it in the gorge. But the power of the water was so powerful that it began to burst outward as hot springs - geysers.
The unique Valley of Geysers in Kamchatka is located in the arms of the Kronotsky State Reserve. The geyser field is located in a hard-to-reach gorge, on the Geysernaya river, and covers an area of 6,000 sq. m.
There are three groups of thermal origin in the reserve:
Verkhnegeizernaya - occupies the southeastern section of the river;
Kikhpinychevskaya - on the terraces of the western slope of the Kikhpinych volcano, with acidic springs;
Geysernaya - located in the lower part of the river and belongs to the main group of thermal springs, which is given the general name of the Valley of Geysers.
The geyser lowland has more than 20 large springs, jets of boiling water gush every 10-12 minutes, there are springs that throw out a stream of water once every few hours. The soil temperature near the underground springs reaches seventy degrees Celsius. On rocky surfaces, in the bright colors of herbs and trees, there is an enchanting splash of fountains of steam and boiling water. Unfortunately, by the will of Mother Nature, at the moment a third part of the valley is covered by a landslide. Not far from the geyser depression is the no less amazing Death Valley, which smells abundantly of hydrogen sulfide.
A traveler or tourist can only get here by helicopter; the guests can see a pristine rocky natural relic. People, being in the Valley for the first time, experience the mesmerizing power of hypnosis, delight and surprise. For all the majestic beauty, do not forget about the safety rules. The most dangerous areas are covered with grass, under which a scalding liquid is hidden. You can only trust only a surface covered with wormwood. Where wormwood grows, you can safely move around, relax, without worrying that the earth will open up under your feet.

Lake Hillier, Western Australia
This remarkable lake was discovered in 1802 on the largest of the islands in Western Australia’s Recherche Archipelago. The lake keeps its deep pink colour year-round, which some scientists say is down to high salinity combined with the presence of a salt-loving algae species known as Dunaliella salina and pink bacteria known as halobacteria.
To really take in this spectacle, consider a scenic flight (1:40h) from Esperance airport. If you are travelling further around this part of Australia, discover our must see sights in this stunning gallery of photographs.
